Binding of Isaac game = like Zelda (nes) on crack.

You MUST play this game if you miss the old school games such as NES Zelda. It 's the same 2d point of view and attack/move system, but very gory, very difficult, has over a hundred items and secrets, and an adult somewhat anti-religion story line.

This is the first game of this genre that has challenged me in a long while. I strongly recommend it. It's for PC, u can buy online

This is definitely one of my favorite indie games to come out this year. I hope people don't pirate it tho.
It has been on sale for as low as $2.49 on steam and even included in one of the humble indie bundles.
It's a really well done game and includes a great soundtrack.

Re: Binding of Isaac game = like Zelda (nes) on crack.

I got this through the last Humble Bundle. For whatever reason it runs super slow on my laptop, which really detracts from it. (I'm really astonished that a game this simple could be such a resource hog, but I guess it's Flash based?) I also don't really care for the game's ambiance. All in all, I feel like it's pretty overrated, but if you get it cheap it's worth a look.

EDIT: Expanding a little bit, it's like a Roguelike Zelda. There's no saving, the dungeons are randomly generated each time, and you don't get the same collection of items from game to game. Thus the difficulty can vary quite widely.

Love it, although I was so close to getting platinum god and he went and added those new achievements which means I'm going to have to do it all over including beating it with Eve again which was a huge pain in the ass. Edmund also announced the game has sold 700K copies which is awesome. Can a mod also edit the OP to take that bull**** out of it, everyone should support the devs if they intend to play the game. It's $5 with a $3 expansion, not exactly breaking the bank. I'm getting a personalised autographed hard copy of the game from him as well so I'm pretty excited. Oh and F*** Ipecac. Some people love it, I hate it.

But yeah I know OP is old, but Isaac is my crack.

Ipecac is garbage...but WotL is amazing imo. Still a little buggy, but has got a lot better since release. Just wish they gave you some hint on what the trinkets do in game...annoying to have to check a wiki all the time.

I've seen this and almost bought it a few times but didn't due to the religious content (I don't mind having a good laugh at religion's expense but just pounding on it for hours is just kind of dull imo), but maybe I'll have to check it out.

Worst case scenario I'm only out a few bucks.

yeah fun game... If I put in another 10 hours I could probably get platinum god.

I actually won this game during steam's retarded christmas promotion, it was the only non-coupon I got.

I should warn people that haven't played this though, that the game is nothing like Zelda. Aside from moving screen to screen and being an action rpg, it has nothing else in common really. I would describe it as an action roguelike.

Huh? This game is about as direct a reference to the original Legend of Zelda as I can imagine. Even the layout of the screen is exactly the same (map in the upper left, bombs/keys/money, two weapons, life on the right as hearts.) "Roguelike Zelda" seems exactly right.

Re: Binding of Isaac game = like Zelda (nes) on crack.

How is the gameplay really that similar to Zelda? There are references to Zelda, but that's it. Isaac is all ranged shooting, Zelda is almost entirely melee fighting. There are no puzzles in isaac, you're not going to be pushing any blocks around. You can also freely move from screen to screen in Zelda, this has locked rooms and you always advance floor to floor like every other roguelike for 30 years. Things like having hearts for health and being able to drop bombs isn't exactly what defines legend of zelda.

I just wanted people to not expect a zelda remake from this game.

reference is right though.

Re: Binding of Isaac game = like Zelda (nes) on crack.

I picked it up pretty much because i loved Super Meat Boy. Played it for a couple of hours and i really don't see the appeal in all honesty. Other than the top down view and the bombs i don't really think it plays all that much like Zelda at all.

Re: Binding of Isaac game = like Zelda (nes) on crack.

the appeal is mostly in having a virtually infinite possible combination of items. Room design tends to be really poor actually, it's just the variety of items/powerups that makes it fun.

Re: Binding of Isaac game = like Zelda (nes) on crack.

God, the most recent patch is incredibly frustrating. The whole final secret level
Spoiler:
is BS. As much as randomization is a strength in the BoI, Edmund went too far with it this time. A level being accessible on only 5% (my guesstimate - I have no idea) of playthroughs, not even counting if you can make it to that point, is crap. What a frustrating patch. I wish he hadn't added this new content.

Also, Samson sucks.

Re: Binding of Isaac game = like Zelda (nes) on crack.

You wish he didn't add it even though it's at the end of the game and doesn't affect anything that comes before it? That really doesn't make sense. Is it frustrating because it's too hard and you can't beat it or that you can't get there every run? I love the fact that you need the polaroid to get there because when you actually do, it makes it much more tense. It's not like dieing in the cathedral or sheol and just saying "well I'll beat it next run." The stakes are high when you get there and theres more pressure. I've been to the chest 4 times and beaten it twice. It felt so much more satisfying when I beat it then when I beat Satan or Isaac the first couple of times. Yes it can be a little cheap but it doesn't break the game.

I think it's a perfect ending to the game and plus you get the real ending and final story. I love the new content. This game deserved a mega hard final stage and got it, the cathedral wasn't that much of a challenge in my opinion. If you're having trouble finding the polaroid, invest in saving up coins and bombs and spamming the fortune teller machines and looking for the super secret rooms.
