Banjo-Kazooie was certainly on our radar, that game just bleeds charm and the level design is indeed fantastic.

Some things I was hoping to take in the next couple of rounds:

Spoiler:
Hollow Knight - I wasn't sure if this was on anyone's radar, but it absolutely should've been. It's very recent but easily in contention for one of my favorite indie games of all time, and probably just straight up one of my favorites of all-time. It has such a fantastic blend of Metroidvania and Dark Souls design and comes really close to perfecting a lot of those elements. It's surprisingly long and meaty, rewards exploration nearly as well as BotW which I raved so much about in the first round, and actually has some pretty fascinating lore/delivery of that lore. It also contains both some of the most rewarding boss battle and platforming challenges I've ever experienced in a game. The art and animation are absolutely gorgeous, and the music is top-notch:

Spoiler:
The Witness: I knew this was on Krayz's radar and I expected maybe a few other people as well. My favorite puzzle game of all-time. It boils down the experience of learning and what it means to learn to its base element and its just such a fascinating study in game design. This game forced me to keep countless notebook scribblings, paper cut outs, and saved jpegs. The simple act of slowly learning the unspoken rules of the games and teaching yourself the solution to some of the most complex puzzles imaginable is such a great feeling. It also has a moment that will forever stick with me that I couldn't possibly spoil but was a total revelation. It's also pretty visually stunning!

Spoiler:
Suikoden II: For my money this belongs in the absolute top tier of JRPGs. We didn't take it earlier because we were pretty sure it would never be sniped and were concerned about having a decent amout of variety in our lineup, but it's another example of one of the best stories across all of video games. Similar to Final Fantasy Tactics, it has a really politically-charged plot that also has some incredibly affecting emotional moments on a character level. The main gimmick of the Suikoden series is the ability to recruit 108 different characters (some obviously have really obtuse requirements or narrow time windows in which to do so), and this game manages it better than any of the other four imo. A very memorable cast, great combat system, and one of more mature plots you'll find in any game would've made this a great value pick at nearly any stage of the draft.

There's another pick we would've definitely made that Binkles and I are super passionate about, but I'd like to give him a chance to talk about it if he wants first, since he's the one that introduced it to me initially. I know he has a few others he felt pretty strongly about as well, so hopefully he can pop in with a few more.

If I had any more picks, I was going to go with:

Mega Man 2 - I'm honestly shocked this wasn't picked.

After that, in some order:

Team Fortress 2
Overwatch (not sure because it's so young)
Roblox
Wolfenstein 3D
King's Quest series
World of Goo
Left 4 Dead 2
Sim City
The Sims

And while I don't know if it would be in a top-100 of all time list, my favorite game ever is:

Baseball Stars (NES)

It was the first sports game on the NES with a battery backup so you could save seasons, statistics, etc., and I believe it was the first baseball game with that feature on any console. It was also the first - and this was my favorite part - that allowed you to create and develop the abilities of players throughout their careers.

Spoiler:

And obviously there are a bunch of arcade games, but I already picked Pac-Man, so really the list can end there.

Hmm that write up of Hollow Knight makes me want to get it, though I have yet to finish Salt and Sanctuary which it sounds similar to.

Baseball Stars is amazing and one of my most played games as a kid, but I have to say the last time I played it as an adult, it was kind of lame. A lot of the fun came from being the OP team with all the “real” legendary players i think.

Meh witness had some awesome moments - one puzzle in the last world might be my favorite puzzle ever - but I found the overworld not intuitive whatsoever. That being said I'd buy witness 2 immediately

I was just telling my wife about the game and saying how I probably wouldn't go back and play it much now (I do have it). And while there are other games in history that I think are better or singularly more fun (Overwatch or TF2, for example), Baseball Stars gave me the most fun for the longest period of time.

What I did was start with all rookies, name them after myself and my friends, then build them up into world dominators with gajillion dollar salaries.

If we're talking old school sports games, Tecmo Super Bowl def deserves at least a mention if not the crown.

Can't believe it took so long for Legend of Zelda, Shadow of the Colossus and Mario World to be mentioned.

All 4 of those are prob in my top 10 favorites of all time, so maybe I just have crappy taste in video games

Mega Man as a franchise
Blades of Steel
Tiger Woods Golf ad a franchise
Prince of Persia

Don’t know if any of those should make it but I think they’re all great

Earthbound and Shadow of the Colossus were also games I valued very highly. SotC is a complete work of art, brilliant game. Earthbound is responsible for some of my favorite gaming memories as a kid, and it still holds up today super well. It's incredibly quirky in a way that really works for me and has so much heart that I'll always love it.

DKC2 vs Tropical Freeze is a really tough call for me. I think both are near-perfect 2D platformers with amazing soundtracks. I probably give the slight edge to TF because I think it's a bit more challenging, but it's really close.

I’ve owned Hollow Knight forever and his post inspired me to download it last night. Played for about an hour and went through the first area and beat the boss. Much more similiar to Ori and the Blind Forest than Salt and Sanctuary. There is estus flask mechanic and having to defeat an enemy to regain currency after you die like salt and sanc. My only complaint so far would be combat vs regular enemies is kind of simple and you’re mostly just spamming attack. Hopefully as you gain more abilities and encounter new enemy types there’s some added depth. Some steam reviews people claim to have gotten hundreds of hours out of this game.

Pretty cool thing in first area:

Spoiler:
You get a map but doesn’t show the player location(I think) and you can see a boss room. You walk into the room, music changes and you fight him. Keep going and then doors lock and the actual boss appears. When you die on the runback you see the first guy was just a large enemy that respawns that you can just jump over and run past.

KOTOR 2 reached an even higher level for like the first 3 hours, then it faceplants pretty bad.
You can get it as an app for your phone and it actually plays pretty well because of the turn based combat. Great for plane rides. I've been playing through it for like 3 years lol.
