Re: Barbarian Thread

The computer is the only thing I haven't shipped across the country to my new place. All you gotta do is sit and check the AH's every 30 minutes.

Felt like I overpaid for the pants when I compare it to other things. They were probably the closest to "retail" value.

At this point in the economy, if you imagine $2 = 1 million, most of that stuff is way underpriced. 5 million for that belt? 15 million for those rings? I'm sure they would fetch much larger prices on the GAH. To be fair though I got everything at 1d11 hours except the weapon which I won on a bid. My weapons are horrible, but those are things I don't want to get close to $250/125m to spend because those will only go down in value. I want Zefa's Bond Ire ring...higher stats than mine with magic find.

LOL FREDDY ONE STEP AHEAD OF YOU.

Not even brag though. If you have better gear then me, I miserably fail. :P

Post your gear, I want to see what you have now.
My gear is worse than that, but not by as much as I expected.

Re: Barbarian Thread

Yup, it doesn't take much to do WW barb with MF. Defensive stats are your main focus with a very good main-hand and fast off-hand.

Once you get to the gear I have, which is not too difficult, any money you spend with be marginal improvements in killing speed. Obviously if you can find rings/amulets with MF and the same stats, spend all you want on those. Weapons of course can use an improvement as well. But I think it's a bad idea to have a farming character worth 1 billion+ gold. I'd rather have a pure pvp character worth 1 billion and a farming character at like 90% of maximum capacity.

I'd rather have a farming character worth 100mill and 900mill worth of money in my bank account than a farming character worth a billion

Hmm...you'd be surprised how much stuff goes for with more MF, more all resist, more str and vit. You've got decent gear on it, but getting 50 more str, 20 more all resist on each piece of gear and 5% more MF (and crit on bracers) makes a huge difference in cost

You should be able to upgrade a few slots though for sure with 100m though. Rings need a lot of work. You will want 35% (hopefully more) crit chance and ~480+ crit dmg on your gear. So your weapons will both need sockets and your offhand will need base crit too. Your rings and amulet don't have crit chance or crit dmg so those will cost quite a bit more.

I think you'll need to upgrade quite a few pieces of gear in order to survive with whirlwind. You need LoH, crit chance, crit dmg for it to work. A 900 DPS 1h with socket (preferably mace or axe), a fast off-hand with base crit, LoH and socket, rings and amulets with crit dmg, crit chance, all resist, str and vit (possibly LoH as well). So you'll lose some MF, but you can gain some dmg.

I would upgrade your weapon first and then try to find rings/amulets with crit chance and crit dmg.

Re: Barbarian Thread

Wow, just realized your gloves don't have crit or crit dmg either.

You are kind of starting with a half geared barb if you want to go whirl wind spec. You gotta replace at LEAST your amulet, 2x rings, gloves, main hand and offhand. Gonna be tough to get good enough gear with a 100m budget without losing lots of MF.

obviously this gear isn't for a ww barb, I have 0% +crit, 0 loh and I'm wearing a shield.

However, hopefully the items that are same between frenzy/revenge barb and ww barb will suffice (shoulders, chest, belt, pants, boots)
also I can probably flip most of the non-crit pieces for reasonable amounts (or hold them for 1.04 and flip them then)

I'm just saying that it might be hard to get a powerful WW barb with 100m + whatever you get for those items you sell. You basically have no weapons and that will eat up at least 1/3 to half your gold. An amulet with crit/critdmg and LoH will be pretty much the rest of it. Maybe you can get some sick bargain deals. Good luck!

Also how important is crit damage really? ie if I have say 300% crit damage surely I'll just kill things slightly slower?

Re: Barbarian Thread

If you aren't using a mighty weapon, crit dmg/crit chance is where 90%+ of your damage comes from (the tornadoes). 300% is a good enough, but you will want to have insane defensive stats in order to survive long enough (1.2k LoH, life regen, 9000+ armor, 1.1k all resists). If you don't have enough defense you will die to molten/arcane/poison before you can kill the pack. You can do it with lower defensive stats in act 1 and act 2 but you really don't want to spend money unless you are gearing your WW barb for act 3. That's where he really shines.

a 950 dps weapon with socket is like 4mill right now
a 500 dps weapon with 600+ loh, 65+ crit damage, socket is similar

also, those numbers are self-buffed yeah?
so 100% base crit damage, 160 or so from weapon sockets
60 from offhand
that's 320 before having any of it anywhere on any gear
I can probably get away with skipping on the gear pieces where it's hard to get

also pretty sure it's more efficient not to have loh on jewelery and just have a higher loh offhand

Re: Barbarian Thread

Make sure it's a 950 axe or mace...try to get some other stat on it as well. Vitality, strength, crit dmg are all good stats to find on it. If you can find some in the 1050 DPS+ range with those stats for cheap, go for it.

Make sure the off-hand is a dagger or sword with those same stats as you said above. Try to get strength/vitality as well as loh, crit dmg and socket.

Your base crit is 50%, not 100%. So that leaves you at 270%. You'll want to get some good all resist/crit chance jewelery and gloves with crit chance, crit dmg and other stats as well. Those are harder to find cheap especially with MF, str, vit and all resist. The best place to cut corners with your budget is to skip MF on gloves, rings and amulet. The market for all resist, strength, vitality, crit chance and MF jewelry is getting higher every day. If you add crit dmg as well, the price goes through the roof.

The dmg on the character sheet doesn't really mean anything, so when mine reads 50,000 dmg. That doesn't mean anything. If my tornadoes are critting for 50k very fast, obviously that 50k dmg is not correct. It's all about the crits and crit dmg. MF > clear speed > penis measuring (Kongor lol).

how much does the offhand's damage matter btw?
I know it's not much, but like is a 300dps weapon with all the right things still alright to get for offhand?

Re: Barbarian Thread

omg there was a 932 loh, 85 crit damage, 100 str dagger on ah with a 50k buyout but I didn't click it fast enough. (took me about a second and a half to click to buy it out from when it was posted, I call shenanigans)

I've been doing this tanking thing for a while now. It's so boring that I haven't even been playing recently. Don't care how much worse this char gets, I'm switching to some kind of crit/ww build now so that the game is playable.

Crit/ww barbs - what are your builds (skills)?

How does it change if your using a mighty weapon? Tornadoes still do the majority of the damage right? figured it was a sacrifice of crit chance/damage for more consistent fury....

Do you think axe/maces are better?

My barb is really budget with like 1k resists, 7k armor, 25k damage, and like 75% mf (working on it) having spent around 30 mil so far. Can do act 3 fairly well, sometimes I die a few times vs a mob, I think its the hard hitting mobs that sometimes all gank me at once that kill me the most.

Re: Barbarian Thread

Since I don't play barb, i thought LoH wasn't as essential anymore until I read this thread.

Is this ammy worth much then? I have it up for 5mil/15mil since I had no idea:

Guessing it would be godly if it had like 150+ VIT or 50+ res all, this ammy must have been one of those guaranteed 4affix rares!

Re: Barbarian Thread

Looking for some advice from you barbs...

I found what I think is a very nice 1h mighty weapon and want to build a barb around it. I'm playing demon hunter so I'm kinda clueless.

It's an 896 dps 1h mighty weapon with 825 loh, 104 strength and a socket. The loh is what I'm a noob with, do I want to stack this in other items? Do I use it as an offhand? Shied or duel wielding? I've got about 10 million and would like to be able to do well in act 1. Thanks.

Re: Barbarian Thread

You should use it as a MH. For WW barb you want a slow MH, fast OH to maximize the damage you do with your tornadoes. The DPS on the OH isn't that important, mainly you just want to be sure it has a socket, LOH, strength, and/or crit damage.

Sword and Board is kind of an antiquated build for barbs. Prior to the last major patch, it was close to being required that you use a shield, but since the patch, you can clear things much much faster DW with a WW build.

Re: Barbarian Thread

10M isn't quite enough for a WW barb

Chuck, to build a standard tank barb just get AR on every piece of gear. Use Warcry -> Impunity and Revenge -> Provocation. Warcry buffs your armor/resists and revenge is a must for healing.

You're gonna have trouble getting a comparable weapon to dual wield. Stacking LoH is nice, but expensive. A faster offhand does help some as you get more attacks and thus the LoH procs more often. Either way shield/dual with that weapon you'll crush A1 easy.

Re: Barbarian Thread

So gf is playing a barb, she is at level 60 and at act 2 inf.

What would be a good build?

I think survivability is important to her, also I sneak around with a glass canon DH behind her.

She has a 866 dps 1H with 310 str and 50 vit. Is dual wield or shield the way to go?

I never play barb myself.
