GDQ is a business. Like most people in life, cancer has affected my family but I am not a fan of PCF.

lol tuned in to the stream just now. Room is literally empty except for the two dudes on the couch running the game.

I just check stream once in a while but hype is definitely gone last 3 years.
one thing that truly annoy me is these speedrunners (like magic sword right now) that use japanese version cause less text makes the run faster.
thats plainout stupid.
the run isnt faster.
the run is japanese version run,it cannot be faster than a different version cause u dont compare apple and oranges if you record times.
in stgs you clearly tell which version of the game you are playing and no one compares US/JPN or whatever version it is,to determinate high scores.
like donpachi US has more bombs why would u ever compare it to jpn,its 2 different versions.
Hence why play magic sword jpn and say *we play it cause its 30secs faster than US*.
so its 30 secs faster than US version but whats the point exactly?

Jpn version is equal to Jpn version and cannot be faster than itself.

Also, having PCF as a charity in an international event is just a really bad decision. There is no reason for anyone outside the US to donate to this charity.

It only works within the US and for those who want to help outside their own country, most would go for way poorer and more struggling countries than the US when donating.

Doctors without borders makes a ton more sense.

So most charity watch organizations rank them pretty highly, but two random dudes on reddit want to pretend to be charity watchdogs or whatever? I know who I should immediately trust without question!

So I was washing the Battle Clash run earlier. I never played it, but I did play the sequel Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge, an awesome super scope game for the SNES. Which led me to watching a youtube video of the game being played (with cheats, pft).

While watching that youtube, Dad called me over "Hey I'm watching a video of your 9th birthday party check this out". There I was opening up a present to Metal Combat

Charities are so warped that a good rating just means they're not the biggest offenders of people just pocketing the $ for themselves. Unfortunately you have to do your own research and decide for yourself if it's not just throwing $ away.

It's baffling they haven't figured out how bad the game running in japanese is when everything else is in english. This is a speedrunning video game show for the masses. My guess is they don't care.

While you guys are right--the biggest problem AGDQ has is simply that it's stale. 2x a year and it's essentially the same. Bunch of games ran, setup from game to game is inexplicably way too long especially when the difference is controller/cartridge. And too many games nobody played or care about (not talking about the awful block) for some reason. I love super monkey ball but super monkey ball adventure is an abomination and not in the so bad it's good way.

Regarding breaking a game, look, some of those games would take all day if you played it the way you're supposed to which would be a bad thing for this event.

It can't be easy trying to balance all the crap that comes up but sometimes you're like "why did X game or why are they doing this?" and nobody can reasonably explain it.

edit--just realized I only know like 2 people that went this year, yeah it's really stale. That is definitely not a brag...
