i'd definitely suggest you guys pair up

i PROBABLY should have said this before you put money into it but:

this game is almost unplayable alone. it's just too risky. ive been playing alone for like a week now cause the person i usually play with is having PC issues, and it has been super tense and difficult (then again, i've been raiding the airfield by myself...so that doesn't help).

way more fun with a friend, and you can't really just pair up with strangers you meet in the game because they are liable to shoot you in the back first chance they get. there's a thing where people type in game "FRIENDLY" if they run in to you...sure, they might be friendly, but it's not like the bad guy isn't going to say the same thing.

I murdered for the first time yesterday. I had just gotten my night vision goggles, had a silenced M4, had a sniper rifle and a new pack - I wasn't about to risk that gear on the chance that this guy wouldn't kill me first. you learn not to take silly chances like that after the first 3 times you do it and end up getting shot in the back.

i've been alive for 11 days now. current average life expectancy is 33 minutes

optimal starting strategy:

first of all, find a map on google image search. this is kind of cheating but everyone does it so don't feel too bad. It's in spoilers in case you want to be lost and totally clueless. i think map is fair game as if this was a real zombie apocalypse you wouldn't be in some random ****ty soviet country with no idea what the road signs mean.

Spoiler:

That's a good one - the diamonds are "Deer stands" which are basically old hunting spots which spawn guns, ammo, supplies. Nothing amazing but you can at least pick up a winchester in these things.

When you first spawn into the game look in the bottom right of your screen - green text pops up and tells you your location "Chenarus - XXXXX" the XXXXX is what you need to know. Find that on the map. Look for the Sun, that'll be West.

You'll spawn on the coast - best survivor strategy is to head inland dead away and GTFO away from the coast.

I'd suggest taking a few deaths, spend them on the coast to learn the controls, learn how to aim, how to mess with your gear (gear is really counter intuitive), raid Elektro or Cherno for decent starter gear, and then head inland.

i'd recommend not fighting zombies out doors - get inside, they are forced to walk inside and become much easier targets for headshots (which is what you need to do with the Makarov (starting pistol) to not waste all your ammo).

just like you would play it in a real zombie apocalypse imo, can't be too careful with strangers

yeahhhhh but not quite as i don't have to deal with the insane moral guilt.

i did feel a little guilty though, i second guessed it afterwords like "i guess I could have given him a chance to leave.......but nahhhhh, i had night vision goggles, **** him."

rocket wrote "The loot and zombie spawn timer isn't working, hence the FPS issues for some people and the billions of zombies. I tried a new mechanism for this update, it works with small numbers of players but stops with large numbers.

Likely be a hotfix, not within 24 hours, but definitely within 48 hours."

Re: Arma 2 DayZ Mod (Zombie/Survival Multiplayer Open Alpha)

I just have to quote this post from the day Z forum, just too hilarious:

Quote:
This mod wasnt ment for qqing noobs who dont know how to survive.

You can blame the mod makers, but its you noobs who dont know how to survive, go play a bit splintercell 1,2,3 and learn what sneaking means.

I know they can see you from close, but what the **** are you gonna do when real zombies are close to you in rl, and you are like oh men **** you man why do you see me from so close i was crawling to you wtf yo.

What you will do is if you see a zombie you will be like **** this **** im walking a few blocks.
Play Splinter Cell, survive from real zombies IRL. Because they exist and we know how they see.

Re: Arma 2 DayZ Mod (Zombie/Survival Multiplayer Open Alpha)

lolol

all the "THIS IS A REALISTIC GAME, MAN"

people are annoying because yes, it's realistic in a lot of ways but not much in other ways

eg, they tried to make it super hardcore realistic by making it so if you have:

four 30 round mags, you shoot 15 rounds in one and reload, you now have 30 round mag in your gun and a 15 round mag in your pouch. great, that's realistic, BUT, it doesn't give you the opportunity to balance out your mags or add ammo to that 15 round mag. so that's pretty unrealistic that you're now stuck with a half capacity mag.

Re: Arma 2 DayZ Mod (Zombie/Survival Multiplayer Open Alpha)

I mean food, blood, weapons, and tools randomly spawn. Cant that end the realism discussion by itself?

Also unfortunately atm, I am with Wiper. My machine cannot handle this game

I have watched probably 20 hours of gameplay footage lol. So I have wasted loads of time on this game without ever owning it

doh

met up with friends, we got wasted at the airfield. 11 days solo = i stay alive and get awesome gear.

10 minutes with friends = death and lose everything
