To get Arma 2 for free go to Steam store -> Arma 2 -> Get demo (It's not a demo, it's the full game fo free)

Operation Arrowhead was $20 and the only thing I needed to buy to play DayZ

arma 2 free is just the multiplayer component of arma 2. since you only want dayz, that and the expansion is all you need.

if you have even the slightest bit of patience however, you can save yourself at least 10 maybe 15 bucks by waiting one more week. steam summer sale will start thursday.

anyone hoping for a console version of this, get real, it's never happening.

Had the same thing happen to me on my best character yet.

I got the luckiest spawn ever, had Elektro pretty much all to myself. Ended up with an AKM, 1911, plenty of ammo, 2 morphine, canteen, matches, hatchet, and hunting knife.. After exploring a lot of the map I finally decided to check out the NW airfield because the server was pretty dead at the time. All of a sudden it was like I was playing the broken 1.7.1 patch again. Zombies would spot me crouch running from a quarter mile away, and if I killed them they would just spawn again and run to my gunshots. I barely get away from the mobs and decide to get out of there when I once again got picked up by zombies that should of never spotted me. I never even realized they went aggressive until one was right behind me.

One hit, around 10k health and I get knocked out + a broken bone. I just lay there while watching my blood go down until death.

I wasn't very happy, its just seems like another one of those things that is fun for team players but completely ruins any solo runs. Like broken bones, if your buddy gets shot in the leg he is forced to crawl until it is safe to fix himself, that sounds awesome when your doing 4v4 PvP. When your playing solo, a broken leg means death unless you want to spend 5 hours crawling to the nearest hospital.

They really need more server options, some for solo players others for team players. Ones with fast deadly zombies for hardcore players, others with slower zombies that can't rip your head off with one hit. It seems like its pretty much always been the creators way or nothing at all, and doesn't look like it will change anytime soon. Its a shame because we have witnessed what can be done with games like Minecraft when you let the servers make their own rules. This game could be great, but I get the feeling the creator might also be the one who destroys it.

Anyway I hope I"m wrong and will end my little rant, still can't wait to get back on and start my next character.

Yeah, I mean you have to remember this game is in the stage BEFORE beta, let alone release. We are basically just there to alpha test the game, and try to enjoy it along the way. The devs are mainly concerned with improving performance/functionality at this point, rather than balance issues such as the ez broken bones and incap.

Just had my body disappear into the ground... Lost biggest backpack in the game (bigger than alice), and my M4A1 Red dot sight

I laughed a few days ago when people complained that tents were getting wiped. They should be happy they weren't wiping all the characters, it's called alpha test! Full wipes happen regularly during beta testing, why are alpha testers whining about partial wipes?

Answer: it's an open alpha.

i really would like rocket to focus on fixing the zombies walking through doors and hitting through walls and stairs glitches. i know it's alpha but i want to play and have fun :/

Yeah I didn't mean to come of as complaining, just had to rant to people that understand the frustration. If you play this you understand, it was just my first "real" death. I'm just lucky it didn't come from one of the glitches mentioned ITT. I have to remind myself that I did not pay for this game, its a free mod. Even if I did spend $30 for Arma2 just to play this, I really have no right to bitch about it. The official forums are a joke with constant posts like that, its really sad.

I hope all the problems can get worked out, but I have no idea whats possible to fix and what will remain broken forever. Apparently its Arma2 that has most of these bugs, but we do have Arma3 coming soon. I still say that company must hate money if they haven't scraped the Arma series yet and started working on this game officially.

Arma is the spin-off version ( or game version ) of a military training sim. They will continue to make the military sim as it's their primary software AFAIK, so arma will keep on coming.

i've never found that big pack. the coyote pack or whatever it is.

Yeah it was the coyote pack.

Met up with someone on a steam group and we headed to bolota airfield. When we got there we saw someone with an M16 running between the hangars. We pursued with my partner a few steps ahead. As soon as he enters the bunker cloest to the control tower he gets lit up and killed. Villain runs right by me and gets and shoots me in the leg, breaking it. As I'm prone on the ground I got a few shots off on villain and he runs away. I didn't have any morphine on me, and am down to about 6000 blood so I am ****ting my pants at this point. I grab morphine off my partners body and fix my wound. Partner luckily respawns near bolota and is on his way. I go prone in the corner of the hangar and guard his corpse.

About two minutes later the same villain shows up, but this time has brought his boyfriend. They enter the hangar and quickly start looting my partners corpse. I waited for them to stop moving and took original villain out with a headshot from my M4A1, his partner tries to sprint away but I finished him off with body shots. Attracted a few zombies during all of this so I had to deal with those shortly after. I am too scared to even move until my partner arrives, who quickly reloots his body and transfuses me. Combined the villains had about 6 blood packs, 2 morphine, 2-3 epi-pens, 20+ STARANG ammo, M16 and some other variant, tons of food and drink, and of course the coyote pack and a czech or alice pack. One of my greatest and most intense gaming moments and that is saying a lot!

And obviously the guy who killed me was someone that we had already killed ~10 minutes prior and didn't take his enfield.

We were running north after looting the 4 watch tower section (where we killed this guy with the enfield), and sure enough he came back to loot his corpse and shot me. My partner took cover and waited to see if he came out. I was unicapacitated at about 400 blood and quickly bandaged. After I bandaged the douchebag shot me again and instakilled me. My partner started firing back at him and apparently he logged off. I am like fine whatever, I'll go back and loot my corpse... But of course all I could find were invisible flies near where my corpse should have been

Also this morning I decided to head as far inland as I could. I got past green mountain or whatever in the middle of the map and found a church. There I found a czech pack (thank god), and an AKM or some AR. I logged off and ate breakfast and when I came back I was just walking around in the church, where apparently someone spawned and instakilled me.

I mean I know people are going to server hop with the game set up the way it is, and even I'm guilty of it if I get to a good loot spawn and there are no weapons when I'm unarmed, or whatever - but holy ****. I was in a place easily 45 minutes away from the coast and someone luckboxes his way into spawning right behind me on this huge ass map... Sigh.

All they need to do is make it so you can't spawn in a building and it would greatly reduce the amount of ******ry. Also people blocking entrances to buildings with barbed wire need to get punched in the head. That is all.

I have not experienced death from someone connecting behind me, but read the whole system is pretty bad right now. I've read about people getting shot at and disconnecting to avoid death. Some take it a step further and join another server and then flank around behind the shooter. Reconnect to the original server and bam, shoot you in the back.

I'm usually on 25 player servers to try to avoid stuff like this and people all together for now. It still sucks when I make it to the NW airfield just to find everything is looted for the 10th time in a row. I mean I understand its a popular spot, but were talking about 2% of the map and only 25 players. Its obvious people are just connecting and looting the place, then logging off and repeating it on another server. It sucks even more because I feel like if I log back in it would be wrong to go back to the airfield. Like I would just be another part of the problem if I did finally get to loot the place.
