I played for a while but the xp and money grind when you hit tier 7 completely turned me off the game. And I had premium and a Löwe which was the big money maker at the time. Don't know if it still is.

I hated the french tanks, but I only got to T4. When I get a lot of xp saved up. I might try to rush a line, but I am going to see others play them first.

I am not too sure what the **** is going on with match maker, but I have been getting worked over by it a lot since the patch. probably 1/5 games I am match with a few t9's in my KV or even my t-28. I get games super fast too, I cannot figure out why they don't thin the matchs a little more and make us wait a few more seconds to fill. It's a pain in the ass.

Everyone know the NEWYEARNA promo code? gets the tetra (which is worth 130k) and a free slot.

The funny thing is that you are going to see way more of these in the short term as everyone and their grandmother buys one "while supplies last". This is , of course, by design. WG knows this is the best way to drum up sales for this tank.

I can't tell what they were thinking when they put in the French tanks:

"Let's see... every battle will take place on totally even ground so there's no need for gun depression, and we'll be french ninjas so there's obviously no need for armor. This can't possibly fail!"

The KV-5 is hilarious fun. It gets the old matchmaking of the 59, which means it'll never see T9 mediums or T10 anything.

The gun has bad penetration, so often you'll come up against other T8 heavies which you can't damage from a distance like the Tiger II or IS-3. In that case, RAMMING SPEED. You'll take a 10-20% chunk off of them because the KV-5 outweighs nearly everything else, and while you're face-hugging you aim for the commander hatches on top of their turrets which is nearly 100% chance of penetration (up close; they are incredibly difficult to hit at 50m+).

unfortunately I hit a mega bump in the road now.

I just bought the VK3001H for 800k, and now I unlocked the 3601H and the 3001P, which means I need another 1.6M. I'm also close to the next TD ( 6k exp I think ) so that would probably be another 1.3M I think.

No idea where I have to get all that monies

Btw, the Stug is a GOAT tank, really fun. Has good speed, hides incredibly well and packs a punch. My next favorite is the Pz 3/4, because it has insane speed and makes good monies if you manage to flank.

How is money awarded in this game? Seems completely random to me. I know it can't be...

Mostly based on dmg done, + a few other minor parts. Premium tanks also get a bonus on monies, that's why the lòwe is such a hit. High dmg thanks to the cannon and premium = super monies...

XP and money is based on damage done (bounces and 0 dmg criticals don't add cash). Small amount for just staying alive longer, and tiny amounts for scouting enemies. The higher tier the enemy is that's damaged, the more money is made. Actual kills don't matter towards money made.

The Lowe makes the most because its' gun has HUGE pen (~240) and big damage per shot. However, it costs double the KV-5/Type 59 but doesn't make double.

The tier 5/6 are going to be the biggest earners outside of the premium tanks. From T7 on up it's hard to make a profit without premium, and T9/10 it's not common to make a profit even with premium.

Gotten sharpshooter 3 games in a row with my B1, zero kills in any game, good god this tank sucks.

Well, the gun sucks anyway.

I am with ya on the french tanks. I am trying to slowly grind the light line and I would much rather sit on a peg....

Finally unlocked my KV-3, but need like 300k to get it. Love the KV with the 107 though. I like it a lot more than the derp. derp is a lot of damage but the pen sucks, and the reload is brutal.

Hella cheese name, I know, but if anyone wants to add me in game. sn: DuncanMcleod

A quick tip: just because you can't see the enemy doesn't mean he isn't there. All the tanks get a camo penalty when they move their hull and/or shoot (moving the turret is fine). Many times the enemy will sit still and then "disappear" as the camo penalty goes away and people won't shoot. Let a shot or two fly into the distance, and you'll up your kill rate.

light, med, heavy tanks.

are the roles really different and are all useful? is there one set of tanks that people use more than others?
Anyone playing World of Tanks? Quote

roles are only important in tiers 4+, because before that there are only little differences. After that things become very distinct. Also stuff is very different in the various lines, so a german heavy is not always like a russion heavy.

Lights are very fast and will probably bounce off almost everything. So they are there to spot for other tanks and earn resits that way. They have to move like squirrels on crack while trying to stay safe.

Meds arethe main pack of wolves. They are agile and should mostly try to flank. They pack decent punch and shoudl try to hit the sides or storm a heavy. Sniping is also an option for tanks like the Panzer IV.

Heavies are slooooooooooooooooow. Some pack an incredible punch, capable of knocking out even a med in one shot. They are also armored to the teeth, so flanking is obligatory unless you got a good few tank destroyers. Slow turrent speed and slow turning speed makes them vulnerable to multiple meds at once.

TDs are mostly there to stay hidden, as they have a big camo bonus, and then pummel the taget. They have good penetration and pack one of the biggest punches. With their low profile, they snipe and kill for a living. Most have no turret, so they are not really agile.

Arty is pretty straight forward. Left alone, they can be killed by a farting mouse. But when they hit, they make stuff go boom. Threads are very fragile if hit with arty fire.

As for what line is good, it's really only personal choice. I currently rock 3 meds and 1 TD. I don't like suicide running with a light and I have no decent heavy + I prefer the mobility of the meds.

Stay off tier3+ light tanks, you will end off in games against tier 8 because you will be regarded as scout by the matchmaker, making your life hell.

I'd also stay away from the french line. People will bounce off you a ton, but you won't be able to hit even the dumbest tanks becuase the french guns suck donkey balls.

After that, I have only limited experience with non german lines. The russians have guns that blow up everything, but they are generally inaccurate and have slow armor ( speaking about low tier lights / meds ). They get early havies that are very viable and fun ( I'm told ), so that might be a good start.

The german line is the one I'm following, and it's mostly med snipers and fast lights. Going for either the Panzer 3/4 or the Panzer 4 is always a nice idea, because both are very fun. The first is a brawler, i.e. run up close to someone and cricle them, the second one a sniper with a super turret that bounces everything. Getting the Marder II ( German TD ) is also very fun, because you get the best gun of the tier, and it's incredibly cheap.

I haven't played a single game in the US line, so I can't comment on that.

If you can, get premium ( 10€ for a month ). You get 50% more monies and experience.

Btw, low tier tanks cost pretty much nothing, so you can try as you please. It's tier 4+ that starts costing experience and credits.

I agree with YD here. playing in a light tank is horrible later on, unless you know all the maps really well, and how your roll works, I would not do it.

I have rushed my KV-3, and love it. That line in the russian tree is pretty fun once you get to the T-28. The elite gun on the T-28 is bad ass, but you have to use the tank like it is a tank destroy. stay back of the push, and snipe your targets. everything in game will pen you, and you just cannot get hit.

The KV is a stomper. I run it with the 107, and love it. made a ton of credits off it.

I also have the M5 working towards the pershing and the amx 40, working towards the stupidly OP fernch light tanks. The american mediums are probably the best in game IMO, but getting there is very very painful. The french tanks are lame till tier 4, but get better at tier 5. The grind in the AMX 40 is pretty painful, as the game considers you a light tank LMAO!!

Getting a premium account makes it a whole lot easier though, and is really not that expensive if you are enjoying the game.
