Re: Anyone play Eve-Online? [MMO]

Was looking over training times here. Worked out the way to how long it takes to earn 1 SP based on your primary and secondary attributes. It's just:

60/(primary+0.5*secondary)

Making every primary point worth exactly twice as much as a secondary point, so training a skill with 10/6 is equivalent to training it with 13/0. Makes some interesting implications. When creating your character, you should specialize in the major attributes even if it means ignoring the secondary attributes.

The learning skill is unclear. According to that site, learning is actually applied to attributes and not to the actual training time (as the ingame description claims). If this is the case, then learning kinda sucks - at least compared to just grinding up your attributes, since we can't get our base attributes high enough to make the boost matter. It means that level 5 learning when training a skill at 10/10 would give you the same bonus as raising the primary attribute 1.5 points would have. I hope that's not right.

I'm in a Caracal as well and like it. I went with assault missiles since there are so many frigates in level 2 missions. Downside is that I have shorter range than I would have had with heavy missiles. My setup is

5 x 'Malkuth' assault launchers
Medium shield booster
Medium shield extender
10MN afterburner
2 shield hardeners (usually kinetic and thermal)
Ballistic Control System

It's not optimal in the way that it uses all power and/or CPU, but it's been able to handle all the level 2 missions I've tried. And I have a low slot that I haven't used yet. Might put in a BCS more or maybe nano structures to get more speed.
Look for a damage control system for the last low slot. It's an activated module that looks like a box with a white cross on it, and it boosts your shield/armor/hull resistance to all damages. It's not as big a boost as the hardeners but it still gives you a nice boost.

Re: Anyone play Eve-Online? [MMO]

Glad to hear there is 2+2 channel. I'll be tuning in.

In other news... I was out to the belts to kill a few rats and a mine a load of ore last night when I stumbled on to an unsecure storage conatiner. Some moran left about a dozen TechII mining crystals for various ores in it. From what I see them going for on the market they are worth anywhere from 200K to 350K a piece. So I scooped them up and took them back to my base. I know peanut to you older players, but to a week old noon thats not chumpo change. Now I just need to figure out how to sell them without tipping off the dude I swiped them from. Somehow I think putting them on the market at 50K less than the going rate and only having 3 or 4 available of each type is pretty much like putting a sign up saying "Dude I'm the guy who stole your mining crystals", and I'll endup with a bullseye on me. I could just reprocess them but I don't think I'd get anywhere close to what they are worth since the are TechII.

So, anyone need some TII mining crystals? Any ideas on how to get some ISK for them?

It gets worse when you factor in that it was built by the collective effort of an alliance (I believe ASCN was 2k+ members), but only their leader flew it. And it took months of effort to get all the minerals, produce the parts, and then produce the ship itself. And then he lost it due to a combination of bad luck, stupidity on his part, and laziness on the alliance's part.

And that loss crushed ASCN's remaining will to fight. Not only did they lose a ship valued at $9,000 -- it lead to the collapse of what was essentially a 2000+ person MMO guild.

Worst thing anyone could do to me in EQ was gank my spawn or set me back a few hours. Any possessions I had, the ones might have spent months of time acquiring, were entirely safe. The game you are describing sounds way too stressful. I get plenty of that from poker.

It's actually quite fun, once you learn the basic ways to protect yourself (for example, that Titan should NEVER have been lost) and once you learn never to fly anything you can't afford to lose. It's not for everyone, obviously.

The comparison to poker is apt, actually. If you're playing for a living, or playing over your bankroll, then of course it's going to be insanely stressful. If you're playing with money that you wouldn't miss if you lost it, well, it can be really fun.

This sounds funny and interesting. Any sites or forum archives where the drama went down? There is enough nerd drama in my wow guild, I couldnt imagine what would happen if someone/guild actually lost something worth $9K in real monies. LOL just thinking about it!

Is there anyway to remove empty wrecks from the overview? I think my overview settings are FUBARed. Nothing I change does anything.

Re: Anyone play Eve-Online? [MMO]

To my own above question - you have to uncheck "Apply only to ships" in one of the menus of the overview settings.

Now, how would I go about getting a Gila? Those things are sweet.

Re: Anyone play Eve-Online? [MMO]

Ok so I paid my money, and started a new character so i could do the tutorial again and relearn it. Problem is, I'm stuck. I got to the part where I was to warp to the CONCORD training place. It said to target the rats and shoot. Problem was, I targeted one, and someone else killed it. I moved forward in the tutorial and now i can't "learn" how to do certin things for some reason. I clicked to go back and re-do it, but its not letting me. Any ideas? BTW my name on eve is Vivaud.
