Monkey Island for example is legendary but aged horribly, and just about the entire adventure genre since then has been crap

exactly.
For me FF7 was a fantastic experience but there is no way I can go back to it nowadays.
So FF7 top 100 yes but personnaly I wouldn't run it again,i.e aged poorly(opposed to goldeneye which I still find fun to play,I can't stand ff7 battle music 1 more sec )

Problem with goldeneye has a lot to do with the controls and playability. I won't even hold the graphics against it, it just feels very clunky and mediocre.

Nominate Space Quest 3 - definitely one of the best adventure games ever, but it's going to be tough narrowing down which of the Space Quests/King's Quests/Leisure Suit Larry games go on the list.

Goldeneye is still Top 100, but it does have one huge AI flaw that should hurt its ranking: Enemies can't see (and thus won't shoot you) through waist-high barriers like railings. I don't think I noticed it or fully processed it when I was playing Goldeneye originally, but once you do, any level with stairs and railings plays really ugly.

Nominate Super Mario Brothers - quite possibly the biggest leap forward in video gaming of all time. Blew the competition out of the water and finally showed off how incredible video games could be.
Nominate Street Fighter 2 - revolutionary. Effectively created a genre. Flawless, smooth controls unlike Mortal Kombat's clunky moves. (SF4 deserves credit for making fighting games popular again, but it can't compete with 2)
Nominate Crash Bandicoot - best linear platformer ever? Tight, precise controls made playing this game a dream.
Nominate Madden ... 97? - I'm not a huge sports game fan but any top 100 without Madden is probably unfair.
Nominate House of the Dead 2 (arcade) - arcade games seriously under rep'd here.
Nominate Initial D (Arcade) - Bit of a niche market game but building your own unique car that you save to a card and drifting against strangers with it is a great experience.
Nominate Katamari Damacy - less than 1 million dollar budget and reminded us that innovation is vital to gaming. Indie before indie was cool.
