The tanks are my favorite to drive as I can do some serious work with them. It's also pretty awesome when you know an enemy is in a building and you send a tank round to blast out the wall. Destructible environments, ftw!
Helicopters are fun to fly and if you're good at it, you will be extremely valuable to your team. Although, it's very rare for me to get into a helicopter as a passenger, with a random, and have it not crash. You can't rely on other people to know how to fly so if you want to be a part of the minority - LEARN HOW TO FLY!
The jets are cool, but very hard to fly (imo). It's going to take awhile to be really effective with the jets, but I think it's a great addition into the game. Usually the jets are just flown by people who want to screw around as they don't really affect the game too much on the ground.
There are some quirks to the game like the laser sight and flashlight, but it's not a huge problem. Sniping isn't that fun at all. You have to deal with bullet drop so it changes the game quite a bit.
The variation in gamemode is pretty much nonexistant. You're probably going to play either Conquest or Rush. Team Deathmatch is kind of stupid and shouldn't be a part of a Battlefield game, imo.
The graphics and audio are pretty amazing. I suggest playing in High Definition as it makes the game a lot more fun to play - and easier. I tried playing on a non-HD tv and it was horrible. Maybe it's just my tv though.
BF3 is more strategic as it's not very wise to just run out into the open. You're going to get blasted from all angles and not stand a chance. 1 vs 2 means you die.
I'm probably missing a lot, but overall, BF3 is a great game and it's a fun game all on its own, away from the comparison to MW3.
Modern Warfare 3:
Modern Warfare 3 is fast paced, gun-on-gun, nonstop action. It's fun. It's exciting. There is a lot of variation in the game modes and the new Kill Confirmed is amazing. I don't think I've heard a negative comment yet.
New in MW3 are the strike packages. Assault, Support, Specialist.
Assault is like what you had in other games. Deadly killstreak rewards that are meant to slaughter the other team. When you die, you reset.
Support is new and was implemented for the casual gamer. These killstreaks help your team, UAV, cUAV, Recon Drone, Sentries. You're not going to get a ton of kills running Support, but you're going to help your team out a lot. When you die, you continue on with your killstreaks. They only reset once you get to the top end of your killstreaks. So if you run 4-5-8, they reset after you get your 8th kill in the game.
Specialist is also new, but instead of killstreaks, you gain perks. At 1 kill you get a perk. At 3 kills you get another perk. At 5 kills you get another perk. At 8 kills you get every perk. However, when you die it resets. I think it only adds the perks according to what you have unlocked, so it's sort of pointless to run Specialist if you're a low level.
The maps are nice, but they are small. A lot of buildings, streets, and things getting in your way, turning corners, people hiding in buildings and in corners, etc.
I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot here as well.
Put it this way--
I played the BF3 beta and absolutely hated the game. I was telling one of my friends how there is nothing fun about the game.
Then I decided to go out on a whim and preorder the game anyways, having faith that things would be fixed.
I got the game and hated it because I was sniping and sucking. Then I switched to the Engineer class and fell in love with the game. It's an awesome game. Once you get the hang of it, it's a lot of fun. It's slower pace, but you have to find what you want to do in the game.
Engineer - repair tanks, helicopters, etc. Blow up **** and be a badass.
Assault - do work with the assault weapons, also have a medic kit to revive teammates and give them back their health.
Support - Run with a heavy machine gun, have extra ammo, and can use Mortars. Also have C4 to blow up vehicles.
Recon - Sniper, but be ineffective for the most part. You will get hunted down if you stay in one spot. I haven't found the right way to play Recon, but I don't play it because I don't enjoy it. If you want to play Recon, though, I would suggest getting the PP2000 unlocked and then just use that to unlock your other equipment.
Then MW3 came out. Back when Black Ops first came out I thought it was cool, then I hated it. I was pretty frustrated overall with FPS games and Black Ops turned out to be a huge failure.
I waited for MW3 and from the first minute I played it I loved it. I think it's a lot of fun. There have been some frustrating moments, but I'm sure everything will get fixed. I like the fast pace and when I'm in the flow of the game I can really help my team out a lot. I find myself looking forward to playing again.
So yeah, that's my review on both of them.
Skyrim should be pretty popular. I'm not going to play it, but I have no doubts it's going to be a great game. I read last night that there will be an INFINITE amount of quests in the game.
My suggestion, decide what you want in a FPS game, and then pick one and get Skyrim also.
From your last comment, I would suggest getting Skyrim. It sounds like you are more into action/adventure games. BF3 and MW3 aren't meant for their single player experience.
So go with Skyrim since that seems to be where you're at right now. You can always pick up one of the FPS games.
FPS games come out every year, games like Skyrim are few and far between.
