18 inducted so far clearly twisted metal 2 is nonsense but it snuck in there some how.

Nominating Ms. Pac Man for being a great and timeless classic that, back in the day, every kid put a ton of quarters into at some point. It was by far the biggest thing, when I was little I can remember arcades still having them 10 deep and every one in play. Simple, fun, challenging, and still plays as well as it ever did 30 years later, can't ask much more of any game.

+1 Super Mario Bros - it was a very long game and you could play for a while. Lots of levels where at a time where most arcade games really didn't.

+1 X-Com: UFO Defense for most enjoyable and engaging game ever, turn-based or not. The night missions with aliens popping out from behind farms always kept me awake.

+1 Half-Life 2 for my best shooter-genre

+1 to Portal 2

-1 to Portal - great game, but too short, and not as good as Portal 2

+ 1 D2 LOD

I have good memories about D2, spend so many nights hunting players and killing them in Hardcore with a lvl9 assasin. Tigerstrike FTW!

I find it very surprising that nobody mentioned "Kingdom Of Loathing" so far.

It's a free webgame, no disks, no downloads, no advertizing, just create an account and play for free.

An adventurer is you!

Google it, you'll be surpised.

Nominate Super Smash Bros 64

-1 to MW2, game was terrible imo. Wasn't better than WaW or BO.

+1 to Punchout assuming it's Mike Tyson's Punch Out!
If it isn't Mike Tyson's Punch Out then -1 for it and nominate Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

Madden 95 is the best football game of all time.

Edit: I still have Tecmo Bowl for my NES downstairs, but it's just not fun. Madden 95 SNES all the way.

my list

Tecmo Super Bowl NES Super was much better than the original (defender in front of receiver didn't auto mean INT [sometimes it was still a catch, had a jump catch graphic, TD celebrations, and it kept stats! Was fun racking up all those sacks, rushing/rec TD's, etc etc. Yeah, it's really dated now but everybody and their snickering of thinking they'd surprise me with the NT dive trick (fu Bob Nelson) and me smashing the hell out of them for using it was always fun.

Mariokart 64. I spent too much time on this game (I even speedran it via timetrials instead of say accomplishing something :/). Four player vs with good players is actually decent to watch.
The knock on the game for me was that battle mode is long and boring with anyone who's actually good. SNES was worse though.

Goldeneye. Yes it's aged but it's not stupid like today's regenerative health nonsense. Also, settings make a difference (for whoever argued control style sucked--you can change it to the buttons--which a lot of the good people did). Game was an innovation. As for the argument that it's not as good now is terrible because Jerry Rice (or insert w/e favorite sports figure) would royally suck as a receiver now but he's still the best of all time. It had a sequel in Perfect Dark (obv nobody's mentioning) where you could shoot the bots in versus multi of varying ability (dark sims in the xbox 360 remake are likely what they were supposed to be but not enough memory in the 64 to utilize it).

(I played this a few months ago vs basically the best in the world...so yeah I didn't win)

Blast Corps
I enjoyed this a lot. Made by rare (GE/PD/Banjo series among others) and you blow stuff up! What's there not to like? I did get all the platinums in this game which people thought was pretty hard. Little replay value after that though which makes probably means it'll be very low on a top list.

Heroes of Might and Magic 2
I played II gold edition the most out of this series (had all the full editions through IV before giving up when 3do gave up). 10k+ sprites = bam your dragons just died muhahahaha.

Super Smash Bros Melee
I was a big fan of this and did a little on the competition front. I thought it was a lot better than the 64.

the -1's
GTA III's another badly dated game but isn't getting the rage there. I liked GTA IV better. Only downing it b/c of the high # of +'s. Shouldn't be quite as high.

Smash bros 64. Ok, hard to give a +1 to a game that was p damn boring in the end. Oh look everyone's picking Ness again. Really was outdated when melee came out imo.

Bioshock seriously?

the 0's but just feel like commenting
had totally forgotten about lemmings 2. Pretty sure I put that into a PC via floppy disks.

edit--yeah somewhat nostalgia here, but everything's 100x more awesome when you're a kid

+1 GTA 3 vice city.
unlike gta 3, vice city was really jaw droppin and fun.
If you replay it now it's still great due to its clear graphics and awesome atmosphear.
GTA 3 has poorly aged and didn't have that maturity of VC.

I prefer VC to san andreas which is too boring imo(still great but the perfect atmosphear of vc does it,soundtrack, flashy miami, colorfull characters).

I used Ness back in the day and did pretty well with him but at the end of the day he's too slow to compete at the expert level.

Some cursory research shows that Ness is considered a below-average character: http://super-smash-bros.wikia.com/wiki/Tier_list

This game didn't age well I don't think. I heard such amazing things about it and tried to play it this year before the new one was released and was bored after an hour. The graphics are terrible even though I'm fine with older graphics such as Baldur's Gate 1+2, Jagged Alliance 2, etc. The game play isn't that exciting and innovative from today's gaming. The storyline didn't intrigue me very quickly.

I could probably keep going, but suffice to say; it's not THAT great. I would -1 your suggestion to add it.

And please add Clive Barker's Undying (first game to scare the crap out of me). Also I'd like to nominate Dark Age of Camelot, the best fantasy MMO ever when it comes to PvP in my opinion, though it hasn't aged well .

Also nominate:
Battlefield 1942 (my all time favorite FPS)

Hey there I played Deus Ex several times. I dont think the graphic is that horrible if you make it 1600x900. Other than that there is a graphic package that you can download. It is a kind of a graphics mod(one of them is called Project HDTP). But I played the game recently.

Now this is the reason why I think that Deus Ex was the best game, still is the best game and will continue to be the best game:

1,A story which could with ease receive and oscar.
2,Wonderful Sound, starting from the theme and continuing with the voices of the characters.
3,Dark atmosphere. When you are in hells kitchen or in china you really feel like you are underground.
4,So many different options. Games today cant compete with what options you have in Deus Ex. You can take drugs, kill small children, read books, hack through computers, learn how to defuse bombs, learn how to swim without needing air, kill pidgeons on the street , put an implant in your brain that allows you to sent a microdrone that you can send whenever you want and you can play it through without taking a single shot although its an Ego Shooter(well its an Ego shooter/Adventure/RPG/).
5,You actually learn something playing the game. Before deus ex I did not know what the Rotschields or the Majestic 12 is about.
6, There are 3 different endings all that change the world. So at the end you become God(Deus).
7,You can choose if go the straight brutal way , the sneaky assasins way or the humble ghost way.
8, Tell me one person who has finished deus ex and thinks it is not epic.

Anybody remember/enjoy playing shadowman as much as I did. It was pretty rubbish on the ps cause it couldnt keep up but on the n64 or pc it was awesome. First game I can think of that was that long (estimated 80hrs+ game play apparently) and required you go back and forth between worlds whenever you wanted, there wasn't one single way to complete the game if you get what I mean

If you only played it for 1 hour, you simply don't have enough information to say anything about Deus Ex (its a 30+ hour a game). It does start off kinda slow and it does have bad graphics, even for it's time. The gameplay was very innovative at the time, although as you say the stealth/combat formula has been done to death these days. However, I argue that even today the level design is simply awesome in how vast and option-filled it is. The first level alone you can beat in so many different ways. It's rather overwhelming, actually, the amount of choice you have at times. I don't think other games today come choice to giving you the amount of freedom as a player that Deus Ex does. At best you might have 2 routes to beat something: Deus Ex often has 5 or 6. And when it comes to storyline, without giving any spoilers I will say that you can influence the story in pretty significant ways, in a fashion that other games simply don't allow you to do (only alpha protocol comes to mind as something that allows you to do similar). Deus Ex is also a true RPG in a way that say Bioshock isn't, giving the way you develop your character huge impact on the way the game plays. Yes, Deus Ex is THAT great, and is still great today. Although perhaps not quite as revolutionary as it was, in many ways it still hasn't been equalled.
