Re: Amnesia: The Dark Descent

I absolutely love it. I quit every 45 min to an hour, desperately needing to take breathers, but then I simply can't stop thinking about the game. I'll either go back to it after a few minutes, or go watch youtube let's plays and enjoy other people getting scared doing what I've already done. Oppressive helplessness never has been so much fun!

kinda pissed me off so i stopped playing this game temporarily...

In other news. LOST HORIZON is a very good, unscary, bright, colorful, Indiana-Jonesesque adventure game that is quite good. A bit camp, but good. Visuals are very good, production quality superior. Recommend this title as well, think it drops officially in the US in the next couple days. U can find it on the internet though LDO

Re: Amnesia: The Dark Descent

I beat this over the last week

The parts where you're exploring new areas lurking with bad guys and have to manage light/darkness to solve puzzles, find hiding spots and paths to escape are great. ****ing terrifying. But then they kind of ruin it by making there be no penalty for dying. This game would be so much better if the levels were short, you could easily die and your had less ability to save your progress,

I couldn't stand the other half of the game where you're solving adventure game puzzles with no bad guys around

is this game worth it? i have so many mixed feelings about horror games; just because im such a pansy when it comes to playing them. its like i want to be scared, but when im actually getting scared i don't want it anymore. perfect double edged sword . i watched a walk-through on youtube and it seems scary as **** rofl

i can only play horror games like 20-35 minutes at a time :P

The game fits pretty well for small chunks of gameplay. Most levels are pretty short and for the first two thirds you tend to get yourself worked up over monsters so its good to take a breather. The last third you have met and seen enough of the monsters that they lose a bit of their ability to scare you so the game focus a bit more on allowing you to learn more about the story and the persons instead of trying to scare you all the time.

I'm generally a wuss but managed to get through it. It does freak you out at the start, but that's the fun part.

Re: Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Beat it, again I think it was an amazing game and deserves more attention than it's getting, well worth the 20 bucks (worth more IMO) as long as you are willing to immerse yourself. Its around 6-9 hours long, but any longer and it's effectiveness would have ceased. Although I actually do like how that works, as the game starts out absolutely freaky as hell as you have no idea what to expect, and as you get further along the game gets more managable, going nicely with unraveling more of the plot.

Re: Amnesia: The Dark Descent

I'd love this game but my graphics card freaked when I tried the demo, so will just have to make do with Penumbra. Will have to invest in a decent gaming PC, but dunno how much I'm looking at, I sort of abandoned PC gaming in favour of the PS3.

^Berezi's post kinda fits me, I love these sorta games but then get freaked out when I'm playing them and have to quit for a bit.

Game is awesome and a breathe of fresh air. The feeling of hopelessness and the atmosphere make this game great. Don't pirate it, the small company that made it deserves the 20 bucks. Game is great.

I'm finally gonna pick this one up. I'm kinda forgot about it but it's the weekend deal on Steam at 50% off for 9.99. Looking forward to it!

Re: Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Just started playing as well and I have some gripes with the game.

Yes the atmo and story so far is great. It's genuinely scary to play alone at night with headphones on. But the puzzles are annoying, the light management system is awful and the sanity system is headache inducing.

Puzzles should be about creative thinking outside the box imo, not about groping in the dark for a flask of oil or a missing object in some painfully obvious solution to a problem. And maybe it's just my bad sense of direction but I find myself getting lost in the non-descript and badly lit levels all the time. This isn't helped by the feeling of rush because you're worried that you're using too much lantern oil.

And now I overused my tinder and oil and am stuck on a level with no more sources of light and the lack of sanity makes it even harder to see anything or avoid getting queasy. I might just have to give up.

Re: Amnesia: The Dark Descent

I'm really enjoying this game thus far. I picked it up at the most recent steam sale and it's very very scary and unsettling to play. IMO this game ranks higher in horror than any horror film or game since.

Fun fun game - only gotten through what I assume is the first half, but right now Steam has it for $9.99: A no-brainer at that price, even if you do only play it for 30 minutes or so at a time (if this game doesn't give you the willies, then you are dead inside... or playing on a computer with a bad video card).

such an amazing game. finished it a few days ago and just wanted to add that this game was an extremely valuable experience! it confronts you with your fears, making you feel you're never save... this game truly indicates a new direction video games are going to imo!
