Idea For New Forum Idea For New Forum

03-02-2007 , 12:03 AM
I'd like to hear other's opinion on a possible new 2+2 forum. It would be called something like Help Me With This Problem. The idea would be to take advantage of the thousands of experts and all around smart people who come here. The original post would be required to be a request for help, advice, or the answer to a specific question, hopefully from people with expertise on the subject.

The argument against such a forum is that people are already engaged in seeking and getting help on many different subjects in the indiviual forums regarding those subjects. So maybe it would be counterproductive to lump together all types of requests for help. What do you think?

If we had that forum, this post should be moved there.

This is a fantastic idea. Congratulations on your first good idea since Theory of Poker.

This forum would be called OOT and it already exists. I remember when OOT (and any other "new" forum) was kind of laughed at, sort of a "novelty". Now we have "The Special Sklansky Forum" and Sklansky himself wants more novelty forums? Lol...do you see why?

Perhaps you have never read "Sklansky on Poker Theory"?

It would.

I think this would involve quite a bit of overlap with other forums. For example, the "computer technical help" forum would be wholly a subset of this new forum by definition.

Also, I don't know if people with specific expertise would necessarily be interested in wading through this new forum looking for questions involving their particular subject. In the current format, those with specific areas of expertise are already participating in dialogues on forums related to those areas where they are both giving and getting. It seems unlikely to me that they would be willing to frequent this new forum where they are (more or less) only answering questions asked by the ignorant and not participating in same-level discussions with others.

I think the one new forum we need is health and fitness.

I think it would work if you had sub categories to further define the focus

Perhaps what David really wants is to be able to post on 2+2 questions on matters on which he is not an expert, and be able to actually get input from experts.

That is what we really want. If you can do that for even one of us (gay guy does not qualify!!!), you should be awarded the Nobel prize you so well deserve.

Hey Dave,

You got any expertise in this field?

yea. I'm having a problem thinking of what kind of problems people might have that aren't already covered. Health and Fitness does come to mind. The Psychology Forum covers a lot of ground. Math/Science/Philosophy covers most academic questions. Maybe Liberal Arts type questions like Literature?

I don't know. Maybe if it were setup, questions might pop in that we can't forsee. Would the Forum Moderator be moving topics that already have specific Forums for them? Sounds like that might be a bit of a hassle. Who knows? It might be one of those, "If you build it they will come" kind of things.

girls in the forum must not be older than 17.

I wouldn't encourage it.

There are way too many forums now. I suppose there's good business reasons for having so many posters, but the site frequently gets bogged down lately with all the activity. I visit here primarily for the poker stuff, and for the Sklansky stuff. More of the latter as of late.

And as I write this I look to the left and see a forum for "American Idol Wagering." Need I say more?

But why not have a poll? People's reasoning may be paramont, but the results of a poll might be helpfull too.

So here's a poll that will be open for two weeks. It should read: Do we need a "Help Me With This Problem" forum?

To make the forum unique, require that responsdents not act like dicks.

Pick the moderator carefully.

There are subjects that Sklansky is not an expert on???

If the problem for which you seek advice stems from your inability to separate good advice from bad, the 2p2 forums in their current state might not be that helpful whereas a wikipedia format probably would be.

Expert information tends to dominate the original Wikipedia and you'd think it would do the same for the 2p2ikepedia

My guess is that someone's made a thread about this possibility before. Linky anyone??

I think we should have our own wikipedia type deal,
Where we copy off the other furoms and have a weekly well. It could be the well furom, and every week a poster could be nominated to field Qs regarding their area of expertise, The idea eventuually being that after a few years any two plus twoer could just search key words in under the "well furom" and they could most likely find some intelligent information on the subject.
I will nominate myself for pimping girls and getting them into bed w/o telling them that you love them. Or Spending much money on them at all.

I think its a great idea, because if I need help with a problem. I would think about this website instead of trying to find a website specific for my problem. Although I guess I could go to google, but google is not that specific, to give you advice on a specific question.

Also, if someone has a problem and they go to your website, then if another user knows of a good site to answer his question he can post a link to the site.

I think it would be a great site, but would need a lot of people so that a lot of people go there and post solutions so that you can guarantee that if someone goes there, they'll find a solution to their problem.

The poll closes in two days and it isn't looking good. Almost 3:1 against.
03-13-2007 , 07:22 PM
I like the idea of the new forum. I think that a moderator would be very necessary as the advice can't be coming from just anyone anymore. It needs to be from an expert.
