I'd almost prefer leading that flop with 4 players. If BTN comes over the top in a big way, I assuming it's QQ or better and let it go. As played, I think you're stuck calling

Turn is another tough spot because you didn't try and take the lead. You assume BTN will bet but if he was c-betting (lol cbetting with air against 4 players at 5NL, but it's 5NL and players are bad) he's giving up there all the time.

Fold is a snap call. Yeah SB could have Q9, JT, or a set, but he also shows up with weaker Js there a lot. If he backdoored a flush, so be it. Just take it as a lesson to avoid putting yourself in really tough spots.

It's really tough for SB to have a backdoor flush. He can't have 9sTs and he can't have the Js to call the flop with.

He can have worse Jx and some monkey junk because he's terrible, so river's an easy call.

Flop is kind of gross and I agree that just leading out and folding to any raise could be best. It's super hard for anyone to bluff us here and we stop BTN checking back AK.

In my experience in the micros, a raiser (or re-raiser) won't cbet into a 4+ way pot unless they've made their hand or have an overpair. If we check the flop, we allow AQ/AK to check back and a free chance to hit, plus any FDs and SDs to hit.

If we lead the flop around $1.25-$1.50 and the BTN calls, we can assume he's either floating or has a QQ+ hand. Either way we can be pretty sure the blinds both fold but if they don't we know we're likely up against weaker Js or a draw.

If we bet and get raised, we're done. BTN is repping QQ+ and he's telling the same story.

When we check the flop, assuming BTN checks we know we're likely best, but we also have to fade any K, Q, T, 9, or heart to feel good about where we're at. That's 23 cards (although 8 of them are potentially "less risky" in the T and 9).

Worse, if we check and BTN bets, we have to call unless we played AJ to make TPTK and fold...That leaves us open to giving a ton of value to a hand the BTN is decently repping here.

The way it played out, it looks like BTN decided to C-bet, got the callers that we all knew are going to come in that spot (again, why C-bet here?), and gave up on the turn. In this case, we hit about the best possible outcome for our hand outside of an A which probably gets some value out of BTN one way or another, but in principle I think we risked way too much and got lucky.
