Question about my and Villain play

PokerStars - $0.10 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

Hero (BTN): 101 BB
SB: 112.1 BB (VPIP: 19.75, PFR: 18.52, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 82)
BB: 170.6 BB (VPIP: 59.41, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 103)
UTG: 285 BB (VPIP: 35.64, PFR: 30.69, 3Bet Preflop: 8.62, Hands: 206)
CO: 122.2 BB (VPIP: 19.48, PFR: 19.48, 3Bet Preflop: 15.63, Hands: 78)

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 9 9

UTG raises to 2.5 BB, CO calls 2.5 BB, Hero calls 2.5 BB, fold, fold

Flop: (9 BB, 3 players) 2 8 J
UTG checks, CO checks, Hero bets 5 BB, UTG calls 5 BB, fold

Turn: (19 BB, 2 players) J
UTG checks, Hero bets 9.1 BB, UTG calls 9.1 BB

River: (37.2 BB, 2 players) 4
UTG checks, Hero checks

I was not sure about turn bet. V look like he is on TT or A8, but he could have some overcards too given his stats and I just wanted to protect vs this.

However, what is interesting is the way V played. He showed QJs, I was not expecting him to have a J here but it does not matter. I am just thinking that I would c-bet this flop for value with QJ, would you cbet this too like no brainer?

Re: Question about my and Villain play

Looks pretty good all round. He will probably be checking a lot of hands on this sort of flop out of position 3 ways and doesn't want to play a big pot with what is a marginal hand.
I think your bet on the turn is pretty good, you will be behind sometimes but there is still value to be had from hands like 78/89/A8, (maybe even 77/66/AK). More importantly though you keep control of the betting and can just check back the river. The last thing you want is to see a huge river bet.

Weak J is exactly what you should expect at him. Btw I think second cb is already overplay against a strong UTG range and 3way flop.

Re: Question about my and Villain play

The reason for checking flop with QJs is to have a strong enough hand to check call at least 2 streets, so as not to leave a checking range too weak. But this is less of an issue 3 way where it's easier to get drawn out on and people bluff less, imo.
There aren't many weak Jx combos being played on average from UTG, J9s, JTs and JQs, where 2 jacks are in play and we have 2 9s so there are 5 combos of weak Jx.
Can expect villain to hold some AK, A8s, 89s, 77, AQss and other flush draws. So Nh I think

Are you saying that you would bet J here? I would bet JQ because it is likely that at least one of them connected with this board and will call worse hand + I usually expect people cold calling to have worse Jack than mine and I don't want to give any free card to gutshots or overcards. I don't expect anyone to have AK but because there are two guys in the pot it is more probable than one has A and another has K.

I think its fine. Villain seems loose enough for you to get 2 streets of value, but no more than that. Wp i guess

You dont have to cb just because you picked piece of flop. Just x/c and as you see you get two streets from 2nd pair, it is more than you could expect here.
Pardon you are not the UTG here but he played his hand well.

Re: Question about my and Villain play

I'd have played V's hand the same way most likely and bet AJs and KJs. Your hand I'd have x'd behind otf because regs I play against x QJ, JT and TT otf and don't fold to flop and turn bets.

Yes, and because I want 3 streets on some runouts. But checking is good for other reasons mentioned in thread so don't rule that out either. With fish in pot checking is out of the question.
