I'd say it's a comprimise between getting value from his weaker/drawing hands and not owning yourself when he does turn up with the 9 or better.

I think it's mainly to keep his calling range as wide as we can, while extracting maximum value.

If we raise to pot here, his calling range is reduced to basically 9's only, and this crushes our equity vs. his calling range. When we raise small here, we keep his calling range super-wide and our equity vs. his calling range nice and big.

I still thin the raise could be bigger that 3$ there for two reasons.
We don't want him to bluff 3 bet with FD or pair+ gutter etc
I also think he is calling even 5$ raise (paying 4.25 for a total pot of 5+5+6.25=16.25)
with a very wide range. Fish don't consider next street action and he would only need 25% equity on this street to call. If we raise to 4 he has to call only 3.25.

I agree that it could be bigger, but I think $5 is too much and would reduce his calling range too much. I still think my original $4 is a great size here.

To be honest, I don't see him 3b bluffing here ever. It's just too advanced for a fish like this that's betting 1/8 PSB.

True. If we were less deep(like 1 PSB stacks on the turn) fishy could 3b shove with his entire range here. I think this deep, he's almost never going to do it though.

Yeah - if he 3-bets this turn we are dead and should fold, but most often he is just going to bet/call with his range.

OFC we have to fold. I just don't want to induce something from a worse hand

my own inclination was to raise a tiny bit more on the turn for value given the range of hands that were staying in [this player was never c/raising the turn btw], but the plan was to c/behind on the river which on balance I agree with [I always tend to push it 1 more notch & own myself!], so I take that on board too.

Verneer? When are we going to discuss 3bet pots? That would be fun.

Re: Moving Up Through uNL in 2010

Be interesting to see where V ends up considering its Jan and hes moved up 3 levels, even only going up 1 lvl a month would have him playing $100/200NL by years end lol. V do u have a plan to be taking shots at high stakes by yrs end? 10/20 25/50 seems feasible, with somewhat agg BR management.
