Seems like a decent idea if we wanted to scrap the two prizes which have a good chance of being won by the same country(Most gold and most combined). Then you could either pool those prizes together or just leave it at $200 as the main prize and use the other $100 for extra cash into the random events or some other side prize.
Pretty sure the top 3 would still need to be handicapped though.
So it could look something like this:
Combined medal points - $200
Least medals combined - $100 (total number of medals won by your 8 countries combined)
Country with most new world records set - $100
Country with populations under 10m medals combined - $100
7 random events, $25 each; or 3 random events, $50 each with $25 added to combined medal points.

Don't be, it's up for discussion how we can get the most possibly sweat, I mean that's the point. If we wanted to flip, we would just roll a dice, the point is that uniterested matches suddenly becomes interesting.
It would make things more complicated, how about keeping most golds and most medals combined and scrapping the most new world records in favour of some more events?
That might be a fairer way to then divide up the prize pool as Andy pointed out, which I hadn't really thought about, that the top three are also most likely to beat world records.
It's been mentioned a few times the possibility of making sure we each get a decent nation which has a chance at winning at least something so I thought I'd compile a little list of the top 27 medal winners from 2008 in order of the amount of medals won. I've highlighted the countries which are eligible for the <10m population prize in green.
I think just drawing 8 random countries for each player, and prizes given:
Most medals combined - $200
Least medals combined - $100
Most new world records - $100
Most medals combined countries under 10m - $125
3 events at - $50
How does that sound to everybody? No handicapping countries, just let them fall where they may and then run with that structure, everybody will get a good sweat that way and it's a good chance for everyone to win some money.
The records prize will be closer than the Gold though, at Beijing they were reasonably close with the exception of the US, from which most of them came in swimming, don't really know anything about swimming events so don't know the likelihood of them all being broken again this time round!

well either or imo, no point having $400 of the prize pool almost guaranteed to go to top 3.
