Pretty sure the top 3 would still need to be handicapped though.

So it could look something like this:

Combined medal points - $200
Least medals combined - $100 (total number of medals won by your 8 countries combined)
Country with most new world records set - $100
Country with populations under 10m medals combined - $100
7 random events, $25 each; or 3 random events, $50 each with $25 added to combined medal points.
I vote for this. Will stop posting in this thread now so other peoples opinions can be heard as well. Sorry if I came off aggressive or anything just want a good sweat!

Don't be, it's up for discussion how we can get the most possibly sweat, I mean that's the point. If we wanted to flip, we would just roll a dice, the point is that uniterested matches suddenly becomes interesting.

imo medal points is even worse than just combined medals or most golds. It's gonna be even more uneven

Re: ** London Olympics 2012 random pool **

It would make things more complicated, how about keeping most golds and most medals combined and scrapping the most new world records in favour of some more events?

That might be a fairer way to then divide up the prize pool as Andy pointed out, which I hadn't really thought about, that the top three are also most likely to beat world records.

i dont really like adding more events since were only giving a $25 prize for them which is kinda pointless imo

Re: ** London Olympics 2012 random pool **

It's been mentioned a few times the possibility of making sure we each get a decent nation which has a chance at winning at least something so I thought I'd compile a little list of the top 27 medal winners from 2008 in order of the amount of medals won. I've highlighted the countries which are eligible for the <10m population prize in green.

1 United States (USA) 110 (55)

2 China (CHN) 100 (50)

3 Russia (RUS) 73 (36.5)

4 Great Britain (GBR) 47

5 Australia (AUS) 46

6 Germany (GER) 41

7 France (FRA) 41

---------------------------------------------------------

8 South Korea (KOR) 31

9 Italy (ITA) 27

10 Ukraine (UKR) 27

11 Japan (JPN) 25

12 Cuba (CUB) 24

13 Belarus (BLR) 19

14 Spain (ESP) 18

15 Canada (CAN) 18

16 Netherlands (NED) 16

17 Brazil (BRA) 15

18 Kenya (KEN) 14

19 Kazakhstan (KAZ) 13

20 Jamaica (JAM) 11

21 Poland (POL) 10

22 Hungary (HUN) 10

23 Norway (NOR) 9

24 New Zealand (NZL) 9

25 Romania (ROU) 8

26 Turkey (TUR) 8

27 Denmark (DEN) 7

If you draw a country below the line your next random pick comes from the following list. That includes Russia if we're halving their medals.

1 Ethiopia (ETH) 7

2 Switzerland (SUI) 7

3 Azerbaijan (AZE) 7

4 Czech Republic (CZE) 6

5 Slovakia (SVK) 6

6 Georgia (GEO) 6

7 North Korea (PRK) 6

8 Argentina (ARG) 6

9 Uzbekistan (UZB) 6

10 Armenia (ARM) 6

11 Slovenia (SLO) 5

12 Bulgaria (BUL) 5

13 Indonesia (INA) 5

14 Sweden (SWE) 5

15 Croatia (CRO) 5

16 Lithuania (LTU) 5

17 Mongolia (MGL) 4

18 Thailand (THA) 4

19 Zimbabwe (ZIM) 4

20 Finland (FIN) 4

21 Greece (GRE) 4

Then the rest of the unpicked nations are given out randomly until everyone has eight.

Re: ** London Olympics 2012 random pool **

I think just drawing 8 random countries for each player, and prizes given:

Most medals combined - $200
Least medals combined - $100
Most new world records - $100
Most medals combined countries under 10m - $125
3 events at - $50

How does that sound to everybody? No handicapping countries, just let them fall where they may and then run with that structure, everybody will get a good sweat that way and it's a good chance for everyone to win some money.

Not sure what you mean? This would be for the combined medals prize. The prize for most golds is separate.

btw someone mentioned getting rid of the most world records prize which I think would be good if we're keeping the prize for most golds.

Re: ** London Olympics 2012 random pool **

The records prize will be closer than the Gold though, at Beijing they were reasonably close with the exception of the US, from which most of them came in swimming, don't really know anything about swimming events so don't know the likelihood of them all being broken again this time round!

well either or imo, no point having $400 of the prize pool almost guaranteed to go to top 3.

Re: ** London Olympics 2012 random pool **

If it was up to me I'd make it something like this

Most medals combined - $200
Least medals combined - $100
Most medals combined countries under 10m - $125
5 events at - $50

Then for events have stuff like,

Equestrian - Team jumping

Wrestling - Men's Greco-Roman 84 kg

Athletics - Men's 1500 metres

Table Tennis

Taekwondo

etc
