Re: ** London Olympics 2012 random pool **

What of we handicapped every single country, and thus instead of doing "total medals across all teams", we did "highest net increase of medals"?

So if USA got 110 last year, they would have to get 115 this year to have a score of +5.

That would have to be the easiest way to have everyone sweating across the board?

As no draw has been made, I would like to withdraw myself from this pool.

Handicapping every country is just going to take the fun out of it for myself, I was just happy to draw countries and play them as they were drawn, but it's getting over complicated unnecessarily.

Re: ** London Olympics 2012 random pool **

What are peoples objections to the structure?

Most medals combined - $200
Least medals combined - $125
Most new world records - $100
Most medals combined countries under 10m - $100
3 events at $50 - Obscure events such as dressage and weight lifting ones, not ones dominated by the largest nations.

Think that offers a good sweat for everybody!

Re: ** London Olympics 2012 random pool **

Think it all sort of collapsed after nobody could agree on prize structuring!

Most medals combined - $200
Least medals combined - $125
Most new world records - $100
Most medals combined countries under 10m - $100
3 events at $50 - Obscure events such as dressage and weight lifting ones, not ones dominated by the largest nations.

I still think that one's a pretty good structure to give everybody a fair sweat!

I've highlighted the countries which are eligible for the <10m population prize in green.

1 United States (USA) 110 (55)

2 China (CHN) 100 (50)

3 Russia (RUS) 73 (36.5)

4 Great Britain (GBR) 47

5 Australia (AUS) 46

6 Germany (GER) 41

7 France (FRA) 41

---------------------------------------------------------

8 South Korea (KOR) 31

9 Italy (ITA) 27

10 Ukraine (UKR) 27

11 Japan (JPN) 25

12 Cuba (CUB) 24

13 Belarus (BLR) 19

14 Spain (ESP) 18

15 Canada (CAN) 18

16 Netherlands (NED) 16

17 Brazil (BRA) 15

18 Kenya (KEN) 14

19 Kazakhstan (KAZ) 13

20 Jamaica (JAM) 11

21 Poland (POL) 10

22 Hungary (HUN) 10

23 Norway (NOR) 9

24 New Zealand (NZL) 9

25 Romania (ROU) 8

26 Turkey (TUR) 8

27 Denmark (DEN) 7

If you draw a country below the line your next random pick comes from the following list. That includes Russia if we're halving their medals.

1 Ethiopia (ETH) 7

2 Switzerland (SUI) 7

3 Azerbaijan (AZE) 7

4 Czech Republic (CZE) 6

5 Slovakia (SVK) 6

6 Georgia (GEO) 6

7 North Korea (PRK) 6

8 Argentina (ARG) 6

9 Uzbekistan (UZB) 6

10 Armenia (ARM) 6

11 Slovenia (SLO) 5

12 Bulgaria (BUL) 5

13 Indonesia (INA) 5

14 Sweden (SWE) 5

15 Croatia (CRO) 5

16 Lithuania (LTU) 5

17 Mongolia (MGL) 4

18 Thailand (THA) 4

19 Zimbabwe (ZIM) 4

20 Finland (FIN) 4

21 Greece (GRE) 4

Then the rest of the unpicked nations are given out randomly until everyone has eight.
I think this method of drawing the nations is best. Then you don't need the obscure events because if your first pick comes from the top 3rd you'll have a good sweat for most medals combined, second 3rd most medals under 10m and last 3rd least medals combined and you will have a sweat in most events whatever you get drawn.

Then you can structure the prizes for bigger payouts like this.

Most medals combined - $275
Most medals combined countries under 10m - $225
Least medals combined - $175

Re: ** London Olympics 2012 random pool **

I think it should just be 216 countries in a list, no handicapping countries nor special draws. If someone gets like two of the big countries then it's pretty much game over for most medals combined but there will still be plenty of other sweats and it will be less than 30% of the prizes, plus the chances of that happening are tiny.

Re: ** London Olympics 2012 random pool **

I think the only way there's going to be an agreement on this is if (like someone previously suggested) we draw up 3 or so structures for prize payouts and selection method, post them in here and make a separate poll. But only people who are in the competition can vote ofc.
