i keep getting told by people that thialand isn't half as good as it use to be/made out to be due to the fact that its become such a tourist destination it just isn't the same. Can anyone confirm or deny?? (i seriously hope deny)

really depends were you go and were you stay. If you go to Bangkok and go stay near Koh san road, which is just a complete cluster f*** of "wannabe hippy travels" yeah it sucks. Phi Phi island Ive never been, but have been told its full of westerner tourists. The beaches are meant to be amazing but too much tourism can sometimes be a bad thing.

Both Bangkok and Phuket are really good if you can just get away from the main tourist sections, which is not hard. Chaing mai was kinda of meh, but i think my problem was that I went and stayed in the tourist spots.

Thailand is amazing, just do a bit of research before you go and dont listen to Lonely Planet

ive never been too any of them places on my last trip, but hope too this time around. I think I can see why people like them places more, they are less touristy then Thailand so they get a more "real" experience of the country. The thing that I and many others like about Thailand is that you get best of both worlds, west and east.

yeah i think that applied some years ago. At least indonesia and laos are filled with tourists nowadays (not like thailand but still) so you have to find the right places to go to. Shouldn't be hard tho with all the islands etc
