Bovada isn't letting me download hand history, so I'm going to have to copy this by hand:

BB (Villian): $37.02
UTG (Hero): $43.27
Button: $45.12
SB: $20.06

Preflop
Hero has 4 4
SB posts $0.10. BB posts $0.25. Hero raises to $0.85. Button and SB fold. BB calls $0.60.

Flop (Pot: $1.80)
2 3 4
BB checks. Hero bets $1.15. BB calls.

Turn (Pot: $4.10)
7
BB checks. Hero bets $2.60. BB calls.

River (Pot: $9.30)
J
BB checks. Hero bets $5.60. BB raises to $18.90. Hero ????

Don't know much about villain here other than that he seems aggressive and has been raising a lot in early position. Sorry for the lack of information, but that's Bovada for you. 40 or so hands and he hadn't limped yet so I guess that's something.

I can't figure out what his range is here. If he flopped a straight I'd expect the check-raise to come on the turn, and given that I've bet on every street my calling range is very strong - sets and straights basically, I wouldn't have any sort of 2 pair. So I don't think he's got 22 or 33 here. If it's some kind of hand turned into a bluff like 88 or A4 I still think this is a really strange line, though maybe he doesn't think I'm betting a straight out like this with a rainbow board. I really don't know, this one is a real head scratcher. Any ideas?

Do you open raise A5o and 65s on CO? If so I would fold, 44 is not near the top of your range on the river.

I would snap call esp with read that he's raising a lot and being aggro. We're only afraid of A5, 56 and 77. He's prob 3-betting JJ pre.

I also bet bigger on all streets. Even though it's a dry(ish) board, whatever calls 1.15 will call 1.50. It might lead to us getting check/shoved on river instead but I'd still snap lol.

I would, but I don't think he's going to know that. Still, I think both those hands are part of a reasonable CO raising range.

Well he's aggro preflop at least, I hadn't seen him pull anything like this. The big hand he won was just stacking JJ with KK so nothing out of the ordinary. The trouble with this one is I can't think of a single hand I'd play this way. I can see *maybe* playing JJ like this if he thinks I'm tight, but that's it. 77 I'd definitely want to c/r the turn since cards like A, 5, and 6 are pretty scary on the river.

I think you're right about the flop bet, though the turn bet I really wasn't expecting him to call

I think he has enough under sets and busted combo draws to make a call profitable.

Isn't there a rule of thumb that if your opponent takes a line that makes no logical sense, you have to call in this kind of situation? I think that he could easily have 22 or 33 here. I have to admit that I would snap call this at the table.

We are getting about 2.5 to 1. If we have a read that this player never bluffs big then I can understand an argument for a folding because we do not beat very many value raises(only 22 or 33), however OP never mentioned that so I feel like we have to call.

This is good advice, and likely what I will do next time.

I'm calling because, as already stated, the BB probably would have raised the turn with their straights.

I can understand the argument that the BB should flat the turn with their entire range, since it consists heavily of pocket pairs that won't be raising (TT-88).

At the same time, 44 is a strong hand compared to the rest of our range, and if we really want to make some Hero folds we have 33-22 for that.

Is BB not more likely to raise the turn with his sets? With a possible straight draw on the board if Hero has an ace or a 5, logically he should be raising before a scare card comes on the river. With a straight, the danger is less obvious and there is less reason to raise.

Yes BB is more likely to raise the turn, but that does not necessarily make it a more profitable play than calling.

I'd snap call too. Imo those calls meant overcards. He probably hit the J. That's what I would think in that situation.

I just found out that Bovada hand histories, when you download them, actually show ALL the cards dealt. Villian had JJ.

In spite of what he had, I'm snapcalling that river. His line makes no sense from any hand except A5 and 65, which are highly unlikely and as you said would probably raise the turn.

I play on bovada too and know how float-happy they are. this is exactly the type of runout where people live to spew. Unless I have a read that the guy has an AF of like 0.4, I'm never folding and feeling good about it.

You kind of have to call otr. I mean what's he really repping?

Exactly - looking back, I should've called this. Now that I see HH's include all the hands I'm looking at similar situations - biggish pots (35+ BB) where I folded the river to a big bet. Seems the shove-bluff is more common than I thought, even at these stakes.

The only thing he's repping that makes sense is JJ, but you would think that since he's being so passive about it that this contradicts the read you have on him. My guess is he flopped a set of 22/33 and was slow-playing it or just has air. I think you're good the majority of the time here that it's an easy call.
