Something I've been thinking about a bit more lately, since it usually jams me up when people do it to me (and I have air).

Are there any spots where you think donkbetting is the best play, especially on the turn or river?

i've heard leading turn/river is ok, esp when the card hits ur range dramatically, but I would never donk flop

I could see getting a lot of value from weak passive players, or calling stations. This would work fine early in a tournament when the person who raised pre is an emotional player, and would raise your bet post flop.

It may also work if you are projecting a draw, and it hits. That way, you would have some fold equity.

As ^, any card that hits your range, particularly when it's not likely to be barrelled by your opponent.

For instance, you might check-call a draw on a flop where your range doesn't like to check-raise, then donk a turn when the 2nd card pairs. An astute opponent should have a lot of check backs on flop with their second pair, so it's been somewhat filtered out of their range. A doubled card isn't often barrelled by population at the micros. Therefore, it benefits you when bluffing and when you indeed have turned trips.

There are also spots where it's so good for your range and opponent is so unlikely to bet, you can develop a depolarised smaller-sized donk.

There are certain positions, like when you defend BB to EP, where certain flop textures are very good for your range and you could have plenty of flop donks, but often, at the micros, regs tend to cbet monkey on flops where they should have a significant checking range, so even in the scenarios we'd like to lead, a check-raise is even better.
