No Limit Hold'em $0.02/$0.05
PokerStars

Formatted by pokercopilot.com - Mac OS X hand history analysis and tracking

Stacks:
UTG - UTG ($5.33)
MP - Hero ($7.73)
CO - CO ($5.29)
BTN - BTN ($5.78)
SB - SB ($7.82)
BB - BB ($4.51)

Preflop: ($0.07, 6 players) Hero is MP with 8 9
1 fold, Hero raises to $0.15, 2 folds, SB raises to $0.52, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.37

Flop: K 5 6 ($1.09, 2 players)
SB bets $0.48, Hero??

My fold to 3bet is very high so I don't play 3bet pots to often where I'm not the aggressor (trying to loosen up a bit). So I'm wondering if its standard to float the flop here with a gut shot in a 3bet pot? V's 3betting 6% over 150 hands and continuing 67% of the time.

Fold pre imo

Villain's going to c-bet this flop with most things he squeezes with so floating is very standard especially when you have the backdoor flush draw that helps you on some turns.

I'd fold pre but after taking the flop, I'm in total agreement with Blades.

edit: didn't notice we're 150bbs deep. Definitely calling pre and postflop is even more of a slam dunk call.

+ when you are also capable to bluff the turn when he checks to you, i would call too.

Def see a flop and call now. Folding without a bdfd most likely.

Curious as to what people think good turn cards are for bluffing when V checks.

All of them.

So betting on an 8 or 9 is a bluff then?

Okay, maybe not quite all of them. Checking back if you pair, obviously can't bluff on a 7. Otherwise when he checks then this is going to be the worst hand in your range (aside from 78s). No showdown value, you'll have some value bets on any turn, so this combo should go in your bluff range imo. You can't float with 9 high and then not bluff.

I would not try to defend open with 87s by calling PF.150 bbs eff is not deep enough to justify it. I'd much rather call with stuff like TT,JJ AJs. Against a tight 3 bettor folding is probably best. Against somebody who 3bets wider, 4bet to 1.5/fold to shove.

10-4. Also, V probably checks AT-AQ ott if an A falls at some frequency. I don't think A helps our range as much as V's does it?

Ace is better for him than us, but that also means he should be betting it more and weakens a lot of player's ranges when they check it. It's not like many players have a balanced turn check. And we'll have some value bets so I think it's criminal to float with 9 high and then not stab at least once.

yes a semibluff that i don-t expect to work often enough. Unless we are thinking about emptying the clip on the river.

I see betting on an 8 or 9 like picking up dead money and denying him free equity.

personally if i spike a 9 or an 8 i check behind
