The villain is 30/22 over 400 hands. 3bet percentage: 8.1. Fold to steal: 69% over 71 samples.

So I know I probably butchered this hand and just got lucky. But I'd like to know what the correct play was. I think that stealing from the SB with 98s is totally fine. But should we fold to a 3bet? It seems so weak, given the much wider 3bet range of the BB in a blind v blind situation. But calling leaves us OOP with a hand we definitely want to play IP. What about 4bet bluff?

And on the flop, I just called with the intention to fold to a second barrel. Well, the turn changed things a bit, but what should I have done?

Yep i'm folding to that 3-bet. You're OOP hu against someone with a suited connector, it's not a profitable play long term.

    I prefer a 4bet here to a flat call.

Fold pre, ap (regarding your hypothetical scenario) if turn had bricked, it would have been tough to call again. The only realistic hands he has here are pretty much all Ahigh fds, AKs/o, KQs/o and KJo and perhaps ocasional bluffs. Now if we assume he bets more than half a pot with his value hands on drawy boards, we can suddenly find more reasons to make a turn call on bricked turns and expect river to go x/x on bricks. Let us not forget we have 6 outs still, just in case ya know, but yea, turn wouldve been definately close.
As for 4betting, you can consider it as this bvb and hes ip so hes allowed to have a wider range

Fold pre, you don't have position.

Flop is fine, but I'd x/c turn to keep villain's range wide. I'd only jam here against a reg who is never folding KQ here against me.

    do not fold pre.
you should be raising close to 50% of hands and 98s is definitely in among them.
depending on your strategy you can limp a certain percentage as well and mix in limping with some AKo and QQ etc.

I think people are saying to fold to the 3bet pre. Unless you meant don't fold to the 3bet. Then idk if I agree with that.

Yeah, fold to the 3bet. This is an open raise 100% of the time.
