PokerStars Zoom No-Limit Hold'em, $0.05 BB (6 handed) - Converted at http://handhistoryconverter.com

Button ($5.12)
SB ($5)
BB ($4.37)
Hero (UTG) ($8.78)
MP ($23.33)
CO ($12.61)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with 8, 8
Hero raises to $0.15, 1 fold, CO raises to $0.32, 3 folds, Hero calls $0.17

Flop: ($0.71) A, 8, K (2 players)
Hero checks, CO checks

Turn: ($0.71) 2 (2 players)
Hero bets $0.35, CO raises to $0.85, Hero calls $0.50

River: ($2.41) 6 (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $1.25, Hero raises to $3.40

So im interested on whats the best way to play a set of 8s in this hand. I think by checking flop we induce bluffs and also disguise our hand. Villain will continue only with AA KK AK and maybe some weaker A? Should we raise turn here? I feel like we can really only get called by better and fold worse. AQ AJ will fold. I think a check raise on a river is a good play for maximizing value as villain should betting again at this point if he does have a hand and the way we played it we can easily get value from A2,A6,AK,AQ. What do we do in case villain ships it otr? Do we fold or do we call? Does AK really ship it here?..anyway thoughts? Would anyone play this faster this deep? Minraises are suspicious and sisnce villain checks flop he can resonably have AA and KK....I think if i play it fast and try to get all his stack in by the end i will probably only get there with AA KK and perhaps AK

Pre is fine.
Flop is fine.
Bet bigger ott and raise to around 2$. He will rarely have KK here and most people wont trap with AA at the micros. He will continue with some AA, some AK ,A2 and 22 if possible or a fd especially fds with a K like KdQx KdJx which alone is more combos than AA and KK.
AP the river is fine.

There's a huge problem in your thinking process. You write:

Quote:
I feel like we can really only get called by better and fold worse
Which might make sense. I tend to disagree in general and I'd raise here anyway. But then OTR you write:

Quote:

Which basically contradicts what you say before. Why worst hands are folding on the turn raise and calling on the river raise? It makes no sense if you also consider that FDs are possible only on the turn so more hands should be calling there.

Also, add as many infos as you can about the hand. It's kind of hard to understand what your opponent is doing w/o even knowing his VPIP/PFR.

Hmm yea if you put it this way it doesnt really make sense but what i mean is that V is much more likely to call a raise otr with A2 A6 AQ A8 (As he commits by betting in the first place) than a 3bet ott which signals a lot of strength and polarizes my hand to sets and AK. By just calling turn i underep my hand, telling villain i have a flush, weaker A or whatever. Raising river could make villain think im pulling a bluff repping hands like 66 or better. By "worse" in the thing u quoted by me, i mean the hands mentioned earlier in this post. Hope this makes more sense.

P.S. u havent actually given your insight on how u would play this spot, id appreciate that
