$50 NL, Setting a trap with AA

Villain was 25/25 over only 16 hands. No other reads or notes besides. I'm wondering if I played any street right here, especially the river.

Edit: button was 5/0 over 19 hands

Re: $50 NL, Setting a trap with AA

I don't mind a button call with AA sometimes.

Flop seems OK to me. I think KK-QQ are only worse hands that will call a raise, maybe AK-AQs but I think they just get in here.

Bet smaller on turn. Occasionally you'll get C/R by a Jack so save the money. You also want to keep your bets smaller in the future when you float these spots.

Given the action I think he has a Jack almost never. Standard river value bet after he checks twice. Either he whiffed his FD or he's playing bluff catcher with a one pair hand.

Thanks, and thanks Goonercam also.

As for not betting the river, I figured that the only hands he could possibly call me with that I'd beat would be QQ, Tx, and the way unlikely AK/KQ. I checked because I didn't want to get in the tough spot of facing a check raise, figuring that I'd get 95% of the value out of the hand by showing down.

Villain never check/calls the turn with a Jack, you are destroying his range on the river. You need to valuebet this. But yeah, start by raising preflop. Whatever reasons you have ever heard for not raising preflop with AA are almost always wrong. The only reason not to raise preflop with AA is if you have a very specific reason not to, and that should be extremely rare.

yeah i mean i definitely understand your checking behind, obviously it's the much safer option, but i think this is definitely a spot where you're missing value by doing so in general. what hands that have you beat do you think play this way is my question?

dont do it.

I would rather 3bet smallish pf than just flatting
as played I would vbet river, esp when we have the best 2p hand and he is never folding Kx when the board rolls like this.

3b preflop, if you never get paid off with AA when you 3b, start 3betting weaker hands
