2NL JJ vs unknown calling station

Hi guys,

I would like to ask for some help in analyzing this hand, for what might villain hold and my bet sizing.

Poker Stars $2.00 No Limit Hold'em - 6 players
DeucesCracked Poker Videos Hand History Converter

BB: $2.22 - VPIP: 23, PFR: 16, 3B: 0, AF: Infinity, Hands: 43
Hero (UTG): $2.98 - VPIP: 20, PFR: 12, 3B: 5, AF: 1.3, Hands: 28572
MP: $1.84 - VPIP: 14, PFR: 0, 3B: 0, AF: 2.0, Hands: 28
CO: $2.47 - VPIP: 12, PFR: 9, 3B: 0, AF: Infinity, Hands: 43
BTN: $1.17 - VPIP: 23, PFR: 7, 3B: 0, AF: 0.3, Hands: 43
SB: $2.18 - VPIP: 7, PFR: 7, 3B: 7, AF: 1.0, Hands: 42

Pre Flop: ($0.03) Hero is UTG with J J
Hero raises to $0.05, 2 folds, BTN calls $0.05, 2 folds

Flop: ($0.13) 2 4 8 (2 players)
Hero bets $0.09, BTN calls $0.09

Turn: ($0.31) T (2 players)
Hero bets $0.22, BTN calls $0.22

River: ($0.75) 2 (2 players)
Hero bets $0.56, BTN is thinking for the moment

Villain is a 23/7, so not extremely bad, and I really had no idea what I was doing. Started betting for value, but when he called the turn, I really did not know what range should I put him on.

How would you think this hand, or how would you have played?

Thanks,
X

Re: 2NL JJ vs unknown calling station

The only thing i can pick on is preflop sizing, make it 4x the bb. Then You could make flop cbet bigger, bet more ott and shove that river vs this shortstacked guy. But even as played it's good.

As for villains ranges...
flop : 22-TT, 8x, 35, 56, 67, A3, A5, overcards;
turn : 2s, 4s, 8s, T8 would probably raise us so we can discount them imo, but he might have picked up a fd or hit T so Tx, 99, 8Xs, AXs, 56s, 67s, 35s (and probably "not sooooted" too);
River is a blank and now we beat slowplayed 2p too. Vs some we might go for c/c as all the draws miss, but this guys is passive and short so we bet and count monies when he calls with worse

Re: 2NL JJ vs unknown calling station

Yes, it is exactly my thinking.

The only difference is the preflop raise. I'm UTG and I choose my PFR only by position, not by hand. So it's 2.5BB. I'm trying to play this at 2NL as I would play it at 50NL. Is this a mistake? Would you recommend to adapt to 2NL more and raise bigger than I would raise at different stakes? I feel this is a leak, huh?

Re: 2NL JJ vs unknown calling station

You should have a tight range from UTG and play less hands compared to CO or BTN, so to sort of compensate for that you should raise more preflop. Especially when You have bad players to Your left who will call with worse. So don't raise more pf because of a strong hand, but raise more because of bad position (charge your opponents more for playing against you in position).

Yeah, make it 6c - 8c pre, otherwise well played. This is the best line to take against a station, bet 3 streets but don't go crazy setting up for a river shove.

Grunch- Make it .08 pre.

Optimal line- Bet bet bet. Don't stop betting until you get two new cards for the next hand or he raises you, whichever comes first.
