I wonder if set mining is a profitable thing in 100bb poker. You see pros doing it in television in highstakes cash game, but usualy they are 300bb deep atleast . I think in 100bb deep cash games small pairs should be played aggresively(3betting instead of flatting), rather than passively which is the usual way.

I have some math to accompany this, please correct me if Ia

Assuming no 3bets, in 100bb deep cash games usualy the opens are 3bb-4bb
assume 3.5bb.
we flop a set 1 out of 10 times

so total of 35bb investment, we need to stack the villain 1 out of 3 times for this play to be break even. Which i think is unlikely. Please share your thoughts on this.

you also have to factor in the number of times that your small pair is on the river the best hand vs overcards and you don't get bluffed out of the pot...

fwiw, I lean towards 3-betting my small pairs OOP & calling with them IP (though fairly often I'll 3-bet them IP also)

You also need to factor in that even when you dont stack him, you can still get some more chips in and sometimes the pot is multiway. For me setmining has been very profitable at the micros in most spots

Just play them as you wish for some weeks, then do it the other way and compare your results in hem or pt to see which one is most +ev
