I've been looking for information about open limping from the small blind. So far I've only found articles that have scraps of information and I have to piece them together. Many of the articles I read are about tournament play so I'm not sure how applicable it is to cash games where stack sizes are larger and there is no pressure of busting out. Does anyone know of a comprehensive guide or article about limping from the small blind?
I can't recall having seen much of anything about open limping the SB in micro stakes NL cash games. In my own experience in playing all limits of micro stakes, it's rarely a strategy that I've seen good/winning regs employ (though not to say that it couldn't be). I've only really done it myself as a rare exploitative adjustment.
Probably not worth it at micro's where you're not being 3bet >15% by the average BB, and the average BB probably isn't defending enough either. Still interesting though for sure, if you do find any good strat articles post them so we can see
Limping is defo a strategy that you can take, however the EV difference between a limping and raising strategy isn't that great and isn't worth spending hours working on balancing l/c, l/r, l/f ranges etc and playing wider ranges. Also, players overfold BB tons so it's likely more profitable to go for a steal plus rake may take quite a chunk of the extra EV you're generating from a limping strategy. I'd check out RIO if you want to pursue it though.
I think if you're playing against a player of equal or better strength, open limping the SB. is a sub optimal strategy. Just think about it. You voluntarily put in 0.5bbs and allow BB to see a free flop with the added bonus of position. Even if you took this route with your normal SB raising range, you're essentially gifting X% of equity by allowing BB to freeroll you.
If you're talking about HU, then it might be better since you're limping with PoF position.
