This is true, imo. Incredibly smart, driven, motivated people generally do pretty well in life. Meanwhile, dumb, ambitionless, and lazy people generally do pretty poorly in life. The degree is just a starting point and not necessarily that important of one unless you are going into a field that requires specific training or expertise, like engineering or something.
After all, say you own a business, who are you going to hire? Person A who graduated with a 3.9 gpa in English or Person B who graduated with a 2.2 gpa in business? Clearly the person with a 3.9 is smarter, more talented, and a better worker. You can also change the degree and I still think most people take the high gpa person the overwhelming amount of time.
