Can anyone comment on the stuff he included under the damages list? I'm no legal expert but is there any chance that can hold up in court? There are lots of ridiculous and probably illegal clauses in his lease; does that mean the whole lease is void or anything?

So you think a lawyer would be financially worth it? (At this point we owe $401.25 each, on top of the deposits we handed it at the start of the lease)

lol, every single light bulb in the place needs changing?

You should seriously burn his house down if he doesn't get the smackdown laid on him in court.

Look at the bottom. There's a section called "Conditionally Waived", it looks like he waived ~6k. That plus the 6k security deposit is ~$12k, that leaves ~$6k balance which they're getting billed for.

A big lol at the fine print.

"*Per the lease if this statement is contested in anyway landlord will charge Tenant all expenses, and nothing shall be waived. Additionally, Tenant is responsible for all court costs and attorney fees."

He's basically blackmailing him the $6k waived plus court costs and attorney fees not to sue.

Pretty ****ing shady. On the other hand, I know there's plenty of college students who get trashed every weekend and just WRECK ****. I know when I was living with 6 dudes in a big house for college we broke our fair share of **** including a huge window my roommate fell through. But we fixed everything we broke ourselves so we managed to get our deposit back...

Get in touch with a lawyer right now (I delurked just for this). Do not answer back/pay/tell him to **** off until you have talked to an attorney and picked a strategy.

There's no way in hell smoke detectors cost 100$ each and he is basically admitting to everyone of them being fubar, wich is a serious code violation.

It's obvious BS -- he just made up numbers. Nothing costs exactly $100 or $200. How long did you live there? If it was for 2-3 years then pretty much everything is reasonable wear and tear if you didn't completely trash the place.

its kinda funny that if you contest this bill in anyway he'll try to stick you for the balance. get a lawyer, now. according to this list he probably thinks you guys ran a crack house or something.

We lived there for two years. The house is in marginally worse condition now than it when we arrived. It was a piece of **** to begin with. And if anyone's wondering wtf we were thinking living there, options are scarce in that area to say the least.
