Wat? The bar scene in Amherst is legit and reasonably priced. Living in Boston now, I miss being able to go to McMurphy's, order 5 cocktails at once for $3, chug them all, and go back for more. If you want less of a dive, Amherst Brewing Company is a pretty nice lounge for college kids. There's plenty of things to do and see in Amherst and Northampton, even if they are relatively in the middle of nowhere.
OP, I wish UmassPoker had never gotten taken down, it used to be THE site to organize cash games and tournies. Having said that, your best bets for finding games will be in Southwest lounges and some frats. There's usually a few poorly-structured charity tournaments each year, you could probably find people that'd play 1/2NL through that.
