Hello fellas,

I have this strange feeling that no one needs a student without a work experience and I have some problems to understand what my degree is really all about . It seems that 'Informatics' means the same in US and Europe and contains similar university courses.

I hope that some of you may have education/degree in Informatics and can explain me what kind of job can I look for and how to start career in this area.

I'm pretty familiar with most facets of US higher education, and I've never heard of Informatics. Is that like Computer Science?

It was not much thinking - it was an opportunity to get a quite pricy education for free and I joined an exchange program. The idea was that Informatics means some some sort of consulting work that helps different organization in business and it is related to computers.

I hope that employers heard about it otherwise I'm screwed . And yes it is a Computer Science, we have a School of Computer Science and Informatics is a direction in it. Informatics is more about research in form of reading/writing/observation/interviews etc. but it is not about coding and software development.

Informatics is a vague term. I just graduated pharmacy school and am working towards a job in pharmacy informatics. Basically I'll be implementing, training and maintaining different applications that interface between physicians, nurses and pharmacy.

There are some fields of informatics who do epidemiological type stuff, but are coding software and doing database analysis to find trends in medical treatment etc.

Two vastly different jobs but still described by the term informatics.

Oh yeah, search for Bioinformatics jobs, they are increasing in demand.

Yes, this a thing, basically you can apply your knowledge in any activity/enterprise that has computer in it, as result it is hard to understand what you actually capable of and fit yourself in the requirements to a particular job.

Looking on the Internet for vacancies. Unfortunately the university does not help to find a job and connect you with people from actual organization that needs such knowledge.

Where in the US do you want to work? Where are you now?

Now I am in Sweden.
I am not a US citizen so I do not have a special preferences about place in US or any other country tbh, just want to find something interesting and start using what I learned.
