It was not much thinking - it was an opportunity to get a quite pricy education for free and I joined an exchange program. The idea was that Informatics means some some sort of consulting work that helps different organization in business and it is related to computers.

I'm pretty familiar with most facets of US higher education, and I've never heard of Informatics. Is that like Computer Science?

I hope that employers heard about it otherwise I'm screwed

. And yes it is a Computer Science, we have a School of Computer Science and Informatics is a direction in it. Informatics is more about research in form of reading/writing/observation/interviews etc. but it is not about coding and software development.
