Ya I remember you tend to prefer the traditional backpacks. I remember you hating on the leather shoulder-bag (which I 100% agree with) a page or so back.

idk, usually I have a general idea as to (at least) what DOESNT look bad. Maybe my radar is off

edit - just for the lulz, my gf said I'd look like this with it on

Spoiler:

I'll vote no bag if possible and a courier style bag over a backpack if really necessary.
08-22-2011 , 01:11 PM
I usually take 2-3 books, a notepad of some sort, and occasionally a laptop to school. I'm already hauling this bag most days (music school...) but it goes in a locker for the majority of the day.

a backpack is for high schoolers, a leather messenger bag is the only way to go unless you are on travel and got a traveler's backpack.

leather is absolutely not the only way to go. 100,000% not.

To be fair, it depends on your style. I wear leather shoes a ton (although I dont even own a messenger bag - hypocritical I know) , but backpacks are a no go.

There are probably a few non-leather messenger bags out there, which are solid, but I am pretty picky and like only a few leather messenger bags.

I managed to get though 10 years of university without any bag but if I had to use one I would've likely have picked leather.

If I was going to go non-leather at a reasonable price I'd look for something from Jack Spade.

I would never go for backpack unless i was actually going hiking.

backpacks are better unless ur bringing it to the workplace, imo. vintaqge, check this out if you're def getting a messenger bag: http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban...arentid=SALE_M

(those brown triangle things are kinda ugly tho)
08-22-2011 , 01:43 PM
I like the navy blue one of those but I reeeally don't like the other two. A red one with black trim would be legit (and geographically relevant!)

Backpacks are way more practical but much less stylish. Agree with Henry about no bag but if I really had to get one it would be a canvas messenger bag.

I agree backpacks are a no once you hit 18, and a definite no once you are out of college
08-22-2011 , 03:21 PM
People saying no bag, how are you carrying all your ****? Or do you just show up to class with nothing? I don't think you can do that across all majors.

Wat???? lol, so if you go to graduate school or med school or any type of school beyond undergrad you must wear a gaymessager bag to look stylish? Comfort, utility and carrying capacity of a backpack should be much more important than how it looks. Is your penor that small?

Why is a messenger bag gay?

don't listen to the people who say that, of course a bag is a necessity for the majority of all students.

i've used both a backpack and messenger bag in college. the messenger is probably more stylish, but i personally prefer the backpack for comfort and versatility purposes (aka it carries more ****), as i frequently checked out 5-10 books from the library. when you add the books i'm already carrying, my laptop, charger, notebooks and folders, food/drinks, the messenger isn't really a feasible option for most days.

Pretty much. I might bring the book that we are studying but that would be it. Keep stuff in the car if I need different books I can get them.

I never took notes but given how slim tablets are these days a tablet could serve both as a deposit for all your textbooks and also as a note taking device. You really shouldn't need anything else.

Good luck taking notes on a laptop for any science/math classes. Props to anyone who can figure out how to draw chemical structures with ASCII characters. And 99% of students on my campus wear backpacks. It may be feasible to get by with a smaller bag at smaller, more centralized campuses but the backpack IS the most practical option when you need to bring materials for multiple classes.

You would have a lot of trouble taking notes for chemistry and even more popular things suck as calculus with a tablet. Keeping everything in the car is also not really possible if you are on a big or spread out campus.

henry, the vast majority of students don't drive to class. i will concede your point about tablets decreasing the chances of carrying books, but when doing research in many topics schools are still years away from having all the books/resources online

I think the % of students that wear a backpack varies a lot with location. Backpacks are insanely more comfortable but I have been going with a messenger bag at the cost of extreme discomfort during days with lots of classes. Mine is ****ty though, so I am looking for a new one. Needs to fit a 17" laptop and have a really good (wide) strap. Something like the alienware laptop bags (in terms of strap and dimensions), except not by alienware.

I never took notes and I have never owned a modern tablet but I have a windows 7 tablet and taking notes on it using OneNote is the same as using paper.

fishmeout,

Getting any textbook into electronic format if you don't mind destroying the book takes less than 15 minutes.

---------

If you are carrying all this **** around how do you transition from class to social? Do you take everything home or carry it around all day? If you bring it to the campus pub how do you ensure it doesn't get stolen?
08-22-2011 , 04:32 PM
2 and 3 are definetely looking good. You have to have a decent body to wear them properly.
08-22-2011 , 04:33 PM
Go home, shower, change, etc, then go out?
