I like both styles, but I feel like the second is much more convenient. With that big buckle on the first one, I would end up simply not latching it for accessibility's sake after a while.

I'm sticking with the majority by wearing underwear but at least I have something to protect my pants when I don't do a good job of wiping my ass.

I will never believe this and I think I am proven right by the fact that Americans dont know how to dress (Germans, too, for that matter).
Those are excuses, because people dont bother to inform themselves.
Especially people in college can achieve so much more if they dress better. It is proven that people perceive you differently, so why not take advantage of that?

ppl who worry about class obviously don't have any...ducy?

with that said...backpack.
03-20-2011 , 11:49 AM
Definitely backpack. Can't go wrong with a Northface.
03-20-2011 , 11:54 AM
North Face backpacks are so unnecessarily expensive (thanks to ******* frat guys) that I will never ever buy one.

Nowhere near worth the markup in price.

This is just a ridiculous statement. Who are you trying to impress? 90% of the time the clothes worn by college students are worn while going to class/going out/hanging out with friends. In situations where it matters how people perceive you (interviews, receptions, networking opportunities, etc.) then obviously you want to dress nicely. But day in day out you are a just college student, so while you personally may like to dress more nicely than most, its dumb to say that everyone should behave that same way.

As for the backpack...if you like ones similar to northface check out ogio politan

I bought it a year and a half ago and its still in great condition, nicer than north face imo and cheaper. Holds my 17" laptop with ease in addition to a few textbooks and notebooks.

Sort of tilting experience related to style:

I'm pretty confident in my wardrobe: I have accrued a decent amount of fashionable clothes, and think I have pretty good fashion sense. Everything I own fits well and I'm able to match things pretty well, etc. That said, I rarely get complimented on any one piece of clothing. Sometimes people tell me I look nice, but there are some cool shirts/shoes I own that nobody ever comments on. That's fine, pretty standard.

However, here is one shirt I own that I can wear and it gets 2-3 compliments a day without fail. It is an Elvis T shirt with an Elvis album cover. I got it as a gift a few years ago and didn't wear it for the longest time. It's a cool shirt, but I feel it's very cliche and I actually like Elvis' music at a much deeper level than most people, so something feels odd about advertising my deep admiration for an artist that most people appreciate at a surface level, if at all. When I finally wore it after letting it sit in my closet for like a year, people were complimenting it like crazy. It's now something of a go to. It's always a bit tilting though when people compliment it after never complimenting all the other cool clothes I have.

Fast forward to more recently. I got this stupid superhero shirt for Christmas. It is an obnoxious green color. If I saw someone wearing it, I would think "what a tool." I only kept it because the person that gave it to me was so excited. Haven't done laundry in forever, it's at the bottom of my drawer, so I pulled it out and wore it yesterday, thinking I wasn't going out. I did end up going out to this bar, and at least 3 different girls complimented me on the shirt.

**** fashion.

You obviously dont know what cool shirts look like.

Haha, similar experience here. I rarely (though sometimes) get compliments on any of my clothes.

Last year a society I'm part of had an event where people had to dress up as either farmers or farm animals. I didn't put in much effort and just bought a cheap checked shirt which ended up getting 2-3 compliments. Fast forward to last week and for some reason I decided to wear it out again and again got a couple of compliments!

lol I love shirts like this. I have a blue one that says BAZINGA in huge letters across it. I can get away with it though b/c I teach high school aged kids and am a little kid myself. I mean, I already got a ninja turtle tattoo so it's kinda hard to seem mature.

Pretty sure I'm getting this shirt for my b'day in a month. I'll try to get my gf to do this same pose in it (and nothing else obv)

I have 2 of their "Metro" bag and its a good bag and my laptop fits fine in its compartment. I also had a messenger bag from them that I used for awhile with my laptop until I got sick of thinking I look like those other guys with a messenger bag over their shoulder haha. I think that feeling made me buy a regular backpack w/ a spot for a laptop.

I also have a Burton backpack....Used to have a buddy who was a sales rep for these companies so I'd pick up whatever extra bags or shoes he'd have for cheap.

Was having a discussion with someone and I need a style line check..

What is the general consensus on shorts + hoodie?
03-20-2011 , 07:31 PM
in what situation?
03-20-2011 , 07:37 PM
just in general, whenever I wear that I feel somewhat foolish.. like my outfit would look better with jeans and it doesn't make a ton of sense, wearing a hoodie due to being cold but still wearing shorts.

self conscious clothing nit itt
03-20-2011 , 07:40 PM
wearing a short + hoodie seems really weird, i cant imagine wearing shorts and anything more than a long sleeve shirt.
03-20-2011 , 07:42 PM
Shorts + hoodie is totally standard and acceptable imo - esp w/ flip flops

Might wear that tonight actually.

I wear that on the reg because my upperbody gets cold really easily and my legs don't. OTOH i usually wear mid-calves with them and probably look like a douche.
03-20-2011 , 08:42 PM
mid length socks are the nuts when you wear athletic shorts/hoody and high tops yo

i don't think i'd wear shorts and a hoody anywhere that i actually felt like looking good, but going to class/gym/store is definitely fine with either cargo shorts and sandals like vintage said or athletic shorts.

spurious will tell you otherwise, but they don't have hoodies in europe so his opinion doesn't count
