Probably worth the money even if you dont make a lot, im new though

Is there any reason to not just buy 3 pairs of AE's while im in the US? Was thinking those loafers, the neumocks and the PA in black, as my black shoes are slightly more casual.

Mediocre shoes are like $250 here anyways, so it makes sense to buy them while there, and there are plenty of AE b&m shops where i'm going so I can try everything on first and get the perfect fit.

I have the money and the desire to buy the shoes, but just wondering should I be shopping around and if so which other places in the US are similar quality/value/price. Budget is really around $500 for 2, but I could stretch to buying 3 if necessary.Just feel like I will then have shoes sorted for the next couple years.

My only concern is are PA's too fancy for work? I work in an office where everyone wears grey/black pants, dress shirt, black shoes. If PA's are too fancy/formal, I feel like don't really need them at this stage, because I would maybe wear them a few times a year for weddings/job interviews and that's all?

i literally wear AE park avenues every single day to work. they take an insane beating, have only re-soled them twice in like 2+ years. worth every penny.

PAs can, imo, be worn appropriately in just about any setting. 1 brown pair and 1 black pair is definitely enough, but if you really want to stretch it to 3 you can find really good quality used ones on ebay for around $100 if you are cool with wearing used shoes.

Hairstyle question: How should I style my hair if I have a receded hairline? I'm not balding or thinning, but my hairline is ridiculously high and shows quite a bit of forehead. I think it looks decent shaved, but I have some hair and am looking to try something new and if I don't like it I can just do the usual buzz cut.

does anyone have any advice for what to look for when buying a shirt?

every smart-casual outfit i put together always involves a white shirt. so how do i get away from that?

how do i color co-ordinate a shirt with an outfit?

For those prices, I would go with Luxire (custom.luxire.com). You get better quality for less money.

On a similar note to my above post, I'm looking at basically finalizing my basic wardrobe in the states, and then buying individual cool items as I like them here in Aus.

I'm pretty lazy and hate shopping, so looking at doing as few stores as possible. I'm not poor, but on a bit of a budget, probably no more than like $1500 and that includes the shoes.

2-3 shoes as discussed above $500-800

So basically I'm down to maybe $500-$1000 to get some staples. Looking at getting a couple shirts, 4-5 good plain T's, a good pair of dark blue jeans that can be dressed up, and maybe a couple pairs of shorts, new belt, and a steph curry jersey.
I also want to add to my working attire as well, either with a cheapish suit ($400?) or a couple pairs of pants and a blazer. I already have two suits FWIW and don't need one for work so probably leaning option B.

Is my best bet just heading somewhere like J crew and doing most of it one go? As I said, I'm not looking for premium stuff as I can pick that up item by item here, just want to have the core of a good wardrobe formed.

06-27-2013 , 08:55 AM
anyway you can prob buy all that stuff from ralph lauren thats what i would do. be sure to get a pair of GOAT SHOES as well

Yeah I guess that's the question. Out of places like JCrew, RL, BR, CK etc, where is the best option to just grab a bunch of staples?

For some reason I was under the impression that J Crew was actually better quality/Value than those branded clothes, is that not true?

I think they are pretty similar, but in saying that it depends on the size of your regular wardrobe. If they are both going to be in your top 5-10 shirts, I would say it's a bad idea. If you >10 quality shirts you wear in your rotation, I think it's fine that they are relatively similar.

In saying that, I do like the second one as well

I actually browsed through the shirts on my own and decided that shirt number 1 is actually my favourite shirt of their entire slim fit collection and bought it myself
06-28-2013 , 10:06 AM
i love their shirts--i have 5 of them i think. i hope you used the $65 daily deal...now let's just hope we dont get caught at the same bar wearing it on the same night!

That's a pretty decent site. Looking at their previous offers I see that they had a $60 off $120 deal at Bonobos - Which is ****ing amazing. Up til now I've only been getting $50 off $200 using http://a.bono.bs/x/Ow5B9

They also have/had a deal at Indochinos that is decent. I'll have to pay more attention.

Regardless, my 4th pair of chubbies shorts came in today and they are ****ing great. I was never even thinking about buying them but after the insane chubbies mania that went on on Ebay, I gave in. It was funny, for a few weeks these chubbies 'Mericas, Journeys, etc were going for close to $150 on Ebay. I was able to buy only 3 shorts before they sold out and sold them for $90 each, but some people were getting upwards of $150. The mania is over now but they are still selling out on the website hours after they are released.

Anyone know when J. Crew Ludlow suits are going to actually be included in one of their sales? They have a sale every other week, but suiting is never included. I want to give buy a wool Ludlow Navy suit, but don't want to pay $650 for a J. Crew suit. I know they go for as low as $350-$400 during certain sales, so I am being patient. eventually though I may have to give in and just buy one from SuitSupply or something.

Also, I was never into cologne throughout high school, college, and my early 20's, but these past 4 months I've bought Hermes Ambre Narguile, Guerlain Tonka Imperiale, Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille, Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, Sushi Imperiale, Creed Aventus, by Killian Straight to Heaven, Amouage Jubilation XXV, and Pure Havane. I won't need cologne ever again in my lifetime.

btw, Pure Havane is the most unbelievable smelling thing I have ever encountered. I wear it more at home than I do outside because it smells so ****ing good. It's amazing value for $89 on the Thierry Mugler website.

I used to wear mostly designer frags before discovering the niche stuff, and while I mostly wear niche these days I do still like some designer stuff like Gucci Pour Homme 2, Chanel Allure Pour Homme, Bleu de Chanel, YSL La Nuit, Dior Homme Intense, etc

so yeah, if any of you have not yet tried a niche fragrance, go to any Nordstrom and ask them to fill some samples for you. Some stores even have stations that allow you to do it yourself. Barneys, NM, Saks, Bergdorf, Bloomingdales will all have the good stuff. The only department store that will not carry these is Macys. Even Sephora doesn't carry anything great. Unless you want something like 1 Million or something.
