So how do you do it? Do I need to buy a pair of black "casual" shoes?

I think most of Spurious's posts are pretty good but fairly often he will post some ******ed generalization completely out of left field and I can't tell if he is being serious.

donate all of your black jeans and black shorts to the salv army. now.

Spoiler:
now

Black raw denim with some Redwing 9011 boots is killer.
06-11-2013 , 06:22 PM
idk...i think asians can pull it off quite nicely. just not a fan of black jeans.
06-12-2013 , 12:02 AM
Black jeans aren't so bad that they can never be worn. I think they're good for student type venues where things can get messy.
06-12-2013 , 01:47 AM
just get dark blue, black isnt hiding that much more in terms of mess than a dark blue wash is.
06-12-2013 , 02:56 AM
i have a shirt very similar shirt to this, similar pattern and colours, what would you wear it with? I was thinking dark blue/indigo jeans, brown shoes/boots + brown belt.

but what colour v-neck/jacket etc?

also, opinion on these shoes? to be worn with jeans/shirt/v-neck

You are going to get hate for the shirt, its not really a fashion forward, but flannel has its time and place imo(although that looks like imitation flannel in the sense its not flannel material but meant to look flannel with thick plaid). Not a fan of the pocket or a huge fan of the colors themselves(think that style should be more earthy tones). Also that is not really appropriate for spring/summer, but can work in fall/winter.

No to the shoe.

that pic is pretty bad, mine looks 10x better imo -- ill take a pic and upload.

recommend a shoe?
06-12-2013 , 03:44 AM
what kind of shoe you want, just a simple black one that is a little better for club/bar wear?

The problem here is, you are gonna struggle(aka dont think they exist) to find a shoe that looks good and can work as a half-way shoe in terms of casual and dress. So with that said you are going to have to choose whether you want to error on the casual side or dress side. With the outfit you describe, dress is better, but this isnt very appropriate imo for a college type bar.

yeah, i need them for the weekend, going to a flat party and then bars/clubs afterwards, very student orientated.

i dont rly care if im overdressed compared to everyone else or if its not appropiate.

i figured the shoe i linked could work with suit trousers/dress pants as well as jeans.

those shoes are hideous.

sounds like you need a pair these.

06-12-2013 , 05:26 AM
mehhh, the shoes i linked aren't that bad are they? i like them. they look smart + comfortable.
06-12-2013 , 05:31 AM
they are pretty bad, ill try to find a better alternate for you(mainly something that isnt square toe)

I thnik you should look into chukka style, as I think that will be your best choice. Example(just a quick search)

Cant be worn with suit, but it will look good on weekends without looking like your a try hard in college. And can be dressed up and down.

i knw square toe is bad but i thought they were chisel toe (?) which wasn't as bad.

i'd appreciate that a lot.
06-12-2013 , 05:58 AM
If "not as bad" is fine then sure go for it. I mean even the identical shoe but round toe would be inf better(still not something I like though).
06-12-2013 , 06:21 AM
i was hoping you'd clarify -- i'm only going by what i've read on other sites.

i'm not big on boots, i've never worn them or been attracted to them but i'll have a look at some/try some on when i go shopping.

---

don't suppose you could make another suggesion? a shoe preferably, on the dressier side is fine seeing as i plan to buy suit trousers in the future.
06-12-2013 , 07:24 AM
ask for opinion
get opinion(s) and suggestion(s)
ignore said opinion(s)
buy the hideous item anyway
??????
repeat
06-12-2013 , 07:42 AM
Where did i say i bought the shoes? Where did i say i was going to?

You misunderstood what's happened so far, go back through the posts, have another read. Take a bit longer this time so it sinks in.
06-12-2013 , 08:09 AM
Those suggestions give me a better idea of what to look for, thanks.

Never ever say that in SL, you might as well admit to being a date rapeist or a recurring guest on Dateline.

Meh, I should have said that black dress shoes are fine. The only black clothing items I own are three pairs of black oxford shoes and I wear them exclusively with suits.

Other than that, the never wear black thing is quite common on Styleforum and other internet boards. Black isnt very versatile and there are hardly any situations where black is the optimal choice. Black can definitely work in an outfit, but I will say that a different color would be optimal (navy/midnight blue comes to mind).
