+1, i think spurious must just be messing something up in translation.

Dressing well has to do with how clothes fit, and work together.

Standing out has to do with dressing differently then the norm in a certain setting.

No, you stand out when you do something better than the average person.

If you compare five people all wearing chinos and a blazer, the best dressed guy will still stand out.

So will the worst dressed guy.

That is exactly what I meant. (He didn't need to do chinos/blazer to stand out or look good.)

I know, just needed to nitpick the wording.

so my best friend's online store finally opened. it's a bit pricey but i think they are running a sale today and tomorrow so maybe that could help bring some things within a student's budget (you can ask me for a promo code).

im not invested in this in any way but do think he has some awesome stuff as it's basically exactly the type of stuff wear, so figured i'd share.

So which is it spurious? Is standing out doing things better or worse?

You said my definition of standing out being different from the norm is wrong(which it isnt). For example, on the red carpet, almost everyone is dressed well, but not everyone stands out. Its all about setting. You can also be dressed well but not be wearing clothes that are above others, and therefore not stand out.

disko if you are trying to get hype around his clothes, def post it to reddit/mfa and style forum imo.

Most of the stuff looks decent, but they really need to have models for the Blazers/Shirts at the very least. They look terrible just laid out like that.

This is getting silly, but you might want to read my post you've quoted.

a) On the red carpet, a ton of people are dressed horribly.
b) Yes, there do exist some scenarios where one is dressed well and not stand out, if, like you said, the group is dressed well, but then the group will stand out.
c) You cannot do something better than others and not stand out, it's impossible.

You guys are just using different parameters to measure "standing out". If you dress conservatively but wear very nice clothes you are only going to stand out to people that know at least a little about clothing, but to other people you are just going to blend in. Alternatively, you can stand out to just about everyone if you dress like lady gaga.

Maybe the clothes won't stand out to those who know little, but generally the person wearing them will care about fit etc... Which will be apparent to everyone

My vote is for sale in trade for the shoe care kit from AE

I dont know if this is allowed, but I have way too many clothes a lot that I dont wear or dont fit, I have 3 Ralph Lauren shirts one worn once, the other two worn like 3-4 times. They are sized medium, two custom fit, one classic fit. If any sl peeps want them I will sell them for cheap (I was thinking 15$+shipping or 40$+shipping for all 3 or best offer)

Pics as links to not clutter thread:

white - worn 3-4 times- size classic
blue - worn 3-4 times- size custom
green- worn once(st pattys lol) - size custom

When I originally got them thy fit pretty much perfect but I made the mistake of drying them with the rest of the clothes and they shrunk and sleeves and length are too short for me.

Jeans and loafers are a no for me. I don't wear jeans so I don't know what would be ok. I'd consider trying Walnut strands though
So Dark brown can go with black?

Grey V-neck, White shirt, Black jeans, what shoes? I thought black was the obvious choice but i've looked at a lot and can't figure what type.

Black boots.
06-11-2013 , 11:27 AM
I'm not much of a boots guy, if i could grow a proper beard and didnt look 12, i'd probably buy some.

Going with loafers fwiw.

Hi guys. I have probably the noobest of all noob questions but IDGAF and I wanna learn. I understand the shoes and belt should match - black/black or brown/brown. My default outfit is usually a nonblack shirt, blue jeans, brown shoes, brown belt. But I'm never sure what to do when black shirt or pants enter the picture. Can I wear brown/brown with a black shirt? What about black pants? Black shorts? Thanks.
06-11-2013 , 12:28 PM
With a black shirt, id wear a black belt and shoes, never brown. It can be done but it's tough. Black pants is the same imo.
06-11-2013 , 12:32 PM
Would love some good examples of shoes to wear with black jeans or chinos when going casual and black shorts. Thx!!
06-11-2013 , 12:33 PM
Damn that's not the response I was hoping for lol, since I basically only have brown shoes. I'm talking about semi-casual type wear btw, if that changes anything, since I have black dress shoes for fancier attire.
06-11-2013 , 12:39 PM
Never wear black, it's an easy option and the best thing to do.
