Oxford is a weave of cotton for shirts. They work well as a dress shirt or something casual depending on how you wear it and what you wear it with.

Unless it's a western, as CBorders says. Then 2 pockets is kinda money.
Its kind of hard to find an oxford without a pocket though

Oxford shirt requires one pocket. Having one without a pocket would be seriously weird -- it's a casual fabric for a casual button down shirt, and pockets are a casual detail. Casual casual casual cualcualucla sulduafls

Basic rule of thumb: the more complicated **** that's on a garment, the more casual it is.

lol wrong thread i guess

i just checked and i dont have any button down shirts with 2 pockets. is it a regional thing or something? seriously ive never even noticed ones with 2 pockets before this thread.
09-12-2010 , 01:11 PM
I only have 1-pocket ones.

Maybe regional?

Two pockets not gay. Some shirts just require two: work shirt, chambray shirt, utility shirt, safari shirt, western shirt, etc.

Obv note that all of these are super casual.

No Pockets > One Pocket >>>>>>>>>> Two Pockets, AINEC

Anyone who says otherwise has no style.

glad you have the final say on the matter. i still don't see how one pocket looks good or better than two especially when it isn't tucked in whilst wearing pants.

this is where in-thread poles were useful
09-12-2010 , 08:33 PM
solsek thanks to my two eyes i can tell when something looks stupid. a button down with a single pocket that is untucked is one of these things.

Clearly you guys have very little exposure to fashion/fashionable people. My guess is the extent to your knowledge is this thread.

Would you take the advise of someone who just learned what an"oxford shirt is? Yes? Oh well, then keep pairing those jordans with some sick true religion jeans and an american eagle striped shirt.

FWIW, his posts are are his opinion and he is entitled to that, but by looking at posts thus far it is clear he doesn't have a strong fashion sense as to what looks good or doesn't look good.

lol k sorry i wasn't sure if it had specific requirements such as material, pockets, etc.

i don't own a pair of j's, true religion jeans, or anything from american eagle. good one though. i'm blown away by your wit.

Also,

Look at all the major brands out there at sell "decent" button up shirts of any style.

Brooks Brothers
Vineyard Vines
Ralph Lauren
J. Crew
J. Press
and many more....

The majority of their shirts are either no pocket or single pocket. Rarely (relatively) will you find a two pocket shirt. And yes, there is a reason why there are far higher number of single/no pocket shirts to two pocket shirts. It's not random.

and yes, the reason there are more one pocket is because the two only recently became more popular as a style of shirt.
