Pretty sure JCrew sells in Europe now. They sell come called Urban Slim which go for ~$70. Not too slim, not too baggy, I like them.Epaulet makes beautiful everything but $$$.

I have to confess I had no clue what a chino was lol. Nice to see this thread.
Noooo, never anything with a square toe. Literally never, and I'm pretty open minded with regards to style.

I don't own any squared-toe shoes or plan on buying any but what's the reason for this? Are they that bad?

they were in style very briefly in the early 90s. u never see high-end square toe shoes, you'll mainly only see them at places like payless or at best aldo.

anyway, i'm LOVING these for "play," as cborders would like to put it:

biz formal to me always means a suit and tie.

Is a watch considered a necessity? I have no need or want for one but I suppose like any other jewellery it's worn to make a statement.
12-08-2011 , 12:31 PM
Don't think business formal means chinos and sweaters...

Given that cellphones have clocks watches have become completely unnecessary from a pragmatic perspective and now are simply accessories. As such I'm not sure if I would consider a watch necessary unless it was expensive enough to be useful for signalling.

not really and probably not at all until you're in your mid 20s. men will certainly look at your watch and "rate" your status, but i don't think NOT wearing a watch at all is a huge deal. i'd suggest not wearing a watch over wearing a crappy watch.

i work with lots of guys who are very very wealthy and there's a good number of them who don't wear a watch to work. obviously watches are more prevalent in social settings but again, i don't think people will think you're insane for not having one.

yes, of course....typo there...I actually meant "Business Casual."

I should have clarified that I meant necessary for successful social interactions. I have a crappy watch that I wear for outdoor/water activities and wasn't sure if I needed to invest in one to wear socially. Thanks for your answers Henry and disko.

Business casual, that should be ok.

i would suggest wearing a sport coat (without a tie is acceptable here). but since you dont want to do that, your outfit is perfectly ok.

cellphones are not a substitute for a watch. even if you're a poor you should wear a watch.

What? No. You are doing it wrong if you are wearing a watch for keeping time.

That's only acceptable if you need it for a sport (running, cycling, etc.)
12-08-2011 , 03:42 PM
Call me old fashioned, but men wear watches. A+ avatar btw.
12-08-2011 , 03:47 PM
I'm not arguing against watches, I am just arguing that watches are not for keeping time, and if you can't afford a decent watch, no reason in wearing a crappy one unless it's for a sport.
