Just a heads up. The US dollar is pretty strong right now, so meermin is really good value (175 for most shoes, 50 for belts).

https://www.meermin.es/index.php

$35 to ship to US

I ordered these two(and matching belts) as well as burgundy polish for 498 shipped

Really like the first pair. Gonna eventually buy a nice pair of brown oxfords that I can wear with slim fit dark jeans and of course dressier stuff

Allen Edmonds seem to be popular

Also got my hair game like Mike Stud above

I don't think any other thread would appreciate it, so I'm posting it here. Managed to snag 10 tailored dress shirts for 250$ when they would usually have been near 1k total. Legitimately, got the deal of the year with coupons and a nice tailor.

Fwiw, I never seem to look great in dress shirts unless tailored. I'm like a 17.5-36/37, but in slim fits, my chest will bump up to an 18, which makes my selection usually ****. I'm almost always stuck to just plain white and blue. Got lucky and scored a bunch of different colors this time.

I need a suit for a gala. SuitSupply offers this one in its evening wear section:

http://eu.suitsupply.com/nl/suits/sm...prefv1=Smoking

Is this a decent suit? I'm kinda put off by the peak lapels, but haven't seen better options yet.

It's a tuxedo, so you have to wear a tuxedo shirt as well as a bow tie.

I don't know much about SuitSupply tuxedos, just wanted to point out to you that it's more than a suit.

Wearing a navy suit with a tie would probably be sufficient if the gala is like most galas I've been to.

Oh thanks in that case I'm going for a normal suit because that would be much more efficient wrt my wardrobe. I'm a complete noob with ties, any suggestions?

I might get flamed for this, but anytime I'm not sure, I just ask an associate wherever it is i'm shopping and/or will look at the display/mannequin/whatever to see which colors the "model" suit went with. It's not as creative as others, but its almost foolproof so you don't wear clothes that don't go together.

I've always associated a gala with black bow tie and black tux or black suit.

If you're wearing a white shirt you can basically wear any tie you want. If you're going for a conservative look, navy suit, white shirt, and whatever color tie (solid or a subtle pattern) works just fine.

If you are going for a navy suit, I'd suggest burgundy, dark green or a darkish brown. Are you planning on buying a tie and what is the window on getting it?

Grenadine are a good choice:

Yes I'll try to get a tie, the grenadine ones look nice. The gala takes place on June 24th so should be enough time.

What about pocket squares btw?

I have like 20 dress shirts and about 15 pocket squares (sales job = leeway for stylish suits everyday)

If you are going to wear a navy suit w white shirt I'd be wearing a white ps. Folded traditionally with just about 1/4" showing from the pocket.

Imo matching the ps to the shirt is better than matching to the tie... Now of course the tie should match the shirt as well. But the ps with the shirt makes it pop.

Couple examples of some of my combos:

Gray/charcoal suit, light blue shirt, gray tie with blue accents, ps not pictured but was blue with white very small plaid

Charcoal suit, shirt is actually mostly white with subtle gray and purple square pattern, tie is purple with slight blue accent and ps is purple and white checkered

Here is a navy one (prob one of my favorite looks), light blue shirt w/a little texture, blue /red tie with red pocket square

Nice Orient. I've been eyeing a stainless steel with blue face for my next watch.

Not a Fan I your pocket square and tie combos. Matching them is usually not a good idea unless you are matching a very minor color of one to the other.

In general they need to compliment and not match.
06-04-2015 , 01:30 PM
I like the one corner fold a lot better than straight myself

Orient is a good brand, mirin it

It's a thresher. Didn't like the blue bezel on the mako.

Had it for 3 or 4 years, runs great still.

Thanks, Ill go with a white pocket square then. Can't wait to wear suits on the daily.

Always hated em. Felt too Dwight Schrute. Then I got one from Life After Denim and it looks and fits great. Good way to change it up every now and then.
