can we get some examples of what ppl have been wearing when they have been called overdressed? plz let the example be something other than a tuxedo at a dive bar.

fwiw still waiting on that 1 dude to post an outfit involving jordans that looked good.

edit: id rock those timbs wayyyyy before the adidas. dont get me wrong, both look good and the adidas are still >>> most of the crap posted thus far. but if its an either/or situation, timbs win out.

What I was wearing was: Casual shoes kinda like the ones ILM linked earlier but black. Some fitting jeans a black undershirt and a button down with sleeves rolled up.

Most of the other dudes were in either cargo or bball type shorts and shirts, which is all good.

I was told it looked like I was trying too hard to impress the women. Which isn't true I really don't care at this point. Also I wasn't trying to out due any other dudes their. I like button downs and imo think I look good in them but whatever lol

Really? Those people must be hicks. Just kidding. But seriously, when is wearing a button down shirt overdressing? I think I've worn a button down shirt every day the past year for EVERY occasion (other than formal events) and I've never been told I'm overdressed. I guess to them a button down shirt = formal hahhaha. My guess is to them wearing an American Eagle button down with some Levi jeans and nike shoes would be considered dressing up. If anything UNDERdressing for every occasion is better.

you're a turd dude and you still haven't posted any pics just insults. google lil wayne or kanye rockin jordans if you rly care. i'm not gonna post pictures of myself. I think a lot of people itt would be more in their element if they posted in the EDF style thread...

moving on I'd like some suggestions on good fitting t's. I'm 6'3 w/ broad shoulders and it's hard to find anything that fits well after a wash.

price range ~$30-40/shirt.

also opinions from non euro on plaid shirts? Good hoodie alternative?

Haha, how old are you? That reminds me of a time when I was a soph in college and at a party with some friends and one of the guys there let slip that his jeans cost $200. Everyone was giving him **** about it and was like "why would you spend that much $$ on jeans???" - even the girls, they weren't impressed. I think being a broke college student changes expectations about style, cause your outfit sounds totally standard.

I'm 19

I agree completely about how being a college student changes or others view you should dress.

I still plan on dressing like this to parties especially when it gets colder.

looking like you came from a nice club = success
looking like you just enjoyed some fine dining and mandolins = fail

you can spend the same $ on two outfits and one will put you above your peers and one will make it look like you're trying too hard/overdressed. People understand that right? Just remember you're going to a college party and being 1 step ahead not 10 is optimal.

Its not like I was in a suit and just came from a steak house. I don't feel I'm trying to hard and am not thinking to myself when I'm getting dressed "girls better like me for dressing nicer" If they do great if not I don't care it's never really my goal to try and get laid everytime I go out. I mean I won't be dressing like that all the time to parties but imo I don't think its that big of a deal haters gonna hate.

T-shirts: Alternative Apparel is good, if you can spend $10-$20 more you can get some from Apolis Activism or Wings + Horns. A little more expensive but the sizing will be consistent, the sleeves won't flare out and they will hold their shape/size. Wash cold and air dry to keep shirts from shrinking.

Plaid shirts: JCrew secret wash. JCrew tends to fit boxy so that may work well for you. If you want something that looks good that you won't feel bad about ****ing up while out drinking and mackin' hoes then check out H&M.

Hoodie alternative: A peacoat from Sterlingwear, a military jacket, shawl cardigan or sweater etc. SNS Herning makes some sick, sick knits but they aren't cheap

Less bickering, less shoe discussion, more fall/winter outwear discussion and fit pics and stuff please. I'll start with what I'm going to be trying this season:

Blanc and Noir hoodie. Found it on Superfuture for a good price but still spent way too much lolzzz. Fits well and is super comfy tho

Peacoat by Sterlingwear. Not sure how if I'm going to like it or not but I've always wanted to try one. I bought the four button version because I think it makes you look a bit taller.

Shawl cardigan by NDG. Chunky and oh-so-crispy.

Military jacket by All-Son/Urban Outfitters. Classic and clean. Dan Humphrey steez!

not a huge fan of the 3rd but the others are money, esp the military jacket

My thoughts as well, the 3rd one makes you look fat.
If you can get one that's fits well, it's awesome, but I doubt that they are made this way.

The rest is really good!

What am I missing about the hoodie? How is it any different than any other solid colored hoodie, like the $8 I have from Hanes? Maybe more comfy, but mine is pretty comfy as it is. Also, it looks like it fits a little too small - not bad, but I think it's sufficiently tight to be in the hipster range of smallness. Not really something I shoot for.
09-05-2010 , 06:47 AM
lol @ citing colored folks as examples of people with style wearing sneakers.

You kinda answered your first question yourself.
The hoodie fits really well on the model. This is how clothes are supposed to fit, it's not too small.

I'm pretty sure in a non scientific poll of girl's overt comments on my ass there is a direct correlation between getting really tight jeans and comments such as "I really like how those make your ass look".
09-05-2010 , 12:40 PM
I have a jacket similar to #4 and like it. I don't know if I could pull of #2 but I think it looks good. As others have said, #3 sucks.
