I must be changing that position based on one game? One game that, as I said, I only sporadically watched? I should just take your word for it? Would that be reasonable or intelligent of me? I can only judge officials based on what I've seen. I don't even know what calls you're talking about here.
However, for what it's worth, Ed Hochuli's place as one of the finest referees in the game was not taken away by his botching of the Chargers-Broncos game a few years back, and that was a blatant miss that cost the deserving team the game. Since nobody else but you is mentioning the officiating thus far, I'm guessing this is nothing that egregious.
In any case, no I would not see one bad game by an official and think that he wasn't one of the best. If I did that, I would eventually have to disqualify all of them. I will say three things with confidence from my time as an official:
1. I was one of the best among my peers at the time. I was consistently evaluated highly, assigned to championship games, and was promoted to supervisor to evaluate and train other officials on my off nights from officiating.
2. I certainly ****ed up at times, and I knew it. It happens.
3. #2 doesn't change the first sentence of #1.
