No

Most people wouldn't get it or take it seriously
The average joe thinks poker is luck/gambling and would think you are immature.
ESP for engineering , they're super professional and aren't going to care that you played a game "for a living"

There's also a few closed minded people that would make a quick flow chart in their mind of
poker - gambler - degen - terrible person

Re: Poker on resume for engi co-op job?

For background, I have a PhD in chem. engr. and worked for 25+ years in industry ending as a VP of R&D. I have probably interviewed 200+ engineers in my career.

Short answer, imo leave it off. There is not a strong enough correlation between the skills needed for engineering and for poker to outweigh the high risk that you will run into someone with a strong bias against poker.

I think this post is a little closed minded, but does still apply for some.

People are generally more open minded about poker in recent years given its exposure on TV etc. In the UK they even show a lot of poker on Sky Sports channels.

For me, it depends how you explain/portray how you went about playing professionally. Surely they're looking for ways to distinguish between potential candidates, this could be a good way to demonstrate your intellect in an alternative way.

Just my thoughts, but I think the stigma has disappeared on the whole.

this imo. there's some chance that 20-somethings could appreciate it, but for the most part they won't be interviewing you. i've worked with engineers and architects (and interns) aged 19-70 but have not met anyone professionally that actually really understood poker.

i am a 20-something and do happen to conduct the co-op interviews at my job, and i can say that with me it would not help you get the job. but if you've been playing poker for a while and have not had any other work experience, be prepared to talk about it to show what you've been doing so far. check other similar posts in this forum for discussions on how to put it in the most positive light that a non poker player could understand.
