wrt the psych question "what does intro have to do with anything," you'd learn about the placebo effect. Changing ANY aspect of your life, if you believe it to be positive, will give you perceived more energy, possibly elevated mood, maybe more confidence. It's all smoke and mirrors though and it is only short term.

I haven't been enrolled in school for 6 yrs. Took time off to work in a music studio, build a resume, figure out what I wanted to do, and make some money. Also, I haven't failed any classes, have a respectable GPA, and am a national merit scholar.
