I was thinking about mentioning that hit but didn't feel like looking it up. I don't usually watch the vids you post because they always manage to have ads but if I remember it correctly the hit wasnt that dirty it was just some freak thing that he hit the part of the boards that come out a bit, right?

Grunching after this obnoxious post, but from my interpretation of your history you have never played competeive hockey, so you have no ****ing clue which hits hurt more and which are easy to get up from. I guarantee(please note I didnt see the hit your referring to), that I have been hit playing hockey at a less speed with less force and felt worse, than the hardest I have ever been hit. What a lot of hockey fans dont realize is boards dont help you unless you are literally right next to them. If you are like 2 feet away its the worse hit you can take, the second worst being open ice, the third and last worst being right next to the boards. But ignoring that, theres a lot of ****ing different things that go into the pain you feel when you get hit(albeit none feel good), a lot of things like where their legs hit/if they do, elbow being up, your momentum direction, his stick placement(hitting anywhere where pads dont cover is a huge bitch). The simple fact is, Hockey players are probably the last people on earth, in terms of contacts sports, you can give **** for, for staying down. I rarely see people milk injuries, and this was when I played from age 7 to age 18, im assuming pros are tougher.

Two hits can look so similar in review on tape, but dpending on the equipment and simple adjustments like elbow placement/position on ice, stick placement(not just talking high stick, but inches can make a difference), you can feel different amounts of pain with same total force exerted.

Edit: But I get it, your post is like "well if he got back up america wouldn't think its dirty", which is so ****ing ironic coming from the guy who hates the populous for being so strong at following simple beliefs like watching new years drop down. O wait you mean most uneducated people think the ends and means are similar and strongly related? No ****ing ****. Majority of americans havent played hockey, just like majority of Americans havent played any sport. People who dont have a clue are going to assume things that end badly are caused by bad actions, and things that end good are caused by god actions. But with this being said, you are not the person to call them out for that. Congrats your a hockey fan, doesnt mean you know what its liek to play hockey. And it might seem like I am just abshing you, but I hear bull**** like this from a lot of people who never play sports. Especially people who criticize soccer/football for the diving. The thing is, yes theres a lot of fukcing diving, but their needs to be, with tackles designed like they are in soccer, if noone dived, refs would call a lot less, making tackling more agressive than it already is, and trust me its aggressive as ****, meaning more **** like this happens:

The simple fact is people dont realize what actually goes on in a sport until they have played it semi competively, but yet people act like they do. Which is funny cause it seem like that is what LKJ is criticizing(people thinking they know whats going on), when in fact he seems dumb for thinking he knows whats going on.

Congrats tho for pointing out people are results oriented when they are uniformed in the workings of something.

Does it make you feel sad that the maddest I have ever gotten on 2p2 was probably over that? Like I no point was I actually mad in the sense my mood irl got worse, but I am baffled at how someone who goes around saying he acts logically could act so illogically. But to be fair half of that rant is because I am drunk and didnt realize if what I was typing made sense to sober people, so I probably repeated or added **** that wasn't necessary but meh. The only other time I remember having a slight inclination of being mad was when arguing with someone on another forum how suicide isnt always an irrational decisions outside of torture.

to be fair, lkj is one of the most obnoxious sports snobs i've ever seen and i've been tilted before by him. it's way way more tilting than some dumb **** like lol couch or lol handholding. i have sympathy for anyone that goes off on lkj for the dumb **** he says related to sports

My inclination was to not bother reading that wall of text, but I sort of did and...what he got from that is that I was accusing Horton of diving? No. No I was not. Nor was I "giving him **** for not bouncing back up." Dude landed really ugly. I was giving **** to the silly American populace for basing a lot of their reaction on result. CC read a lot more into that two line post that simply wasn't there.

It was late. The puck was long gone. It was a clear penalty. There's a lot of chance in whether or not a dude ends up hurt by it, so you could argue that part to be freakish I suppose (just because I have to think a player is making that hit without a ton of forethought and isn't going to examine the boards for safety purposes before making it). But anyway, yeah, throwing a hard check in that spot well after that puck was gone is pretty dirty too.

my interpretation of the rule (after referreeing minor hockey for 6 years when i was 13-18, passing a level 4, which obviously has some massive differences to NHL hockey) is that any marginally illegal hit is automatically a major penalty if someone is injured on the play. In this spot, if he bounces back up right away, he miiiight have gotten 2 for interference.

There's no doubt in my mind that he wouldn't have bounced back up literally ever (this isn't a dig at Boston... very few people would just hop right up) because when you get rocked like that, even if it doesn't hurt, you stay down out of shock at least briefly, if for no other reason than it's a decent spot to try and draw a penalty. You still get up gingerly and try to evaluate whether you're okay, and go off the ice. I've seen it a hundred thousand times.

The hit itself didn't look incredibly bad other than the fact that the result happened to be that Horton got completely levelled and knocked the **** out. Rome is planning on playing his man right in front of the blueline to throw them offside-- the problem being that Horton moved the puck just in front of the blueline to stop just a thing. It's really tough to just not throw a hit after you've already geared up to do so, which is the point of the "finish your checks" thing that you hear all the time (i.e. why it's not a penalty to hit someone right after he clears the **** from his own corner). I guarantee you that if you weren't allowed finish a check the way Rome did, there would be more injuries in terms of pulled muscles and hip flexors and the like from guys gearing up a bodycheck and then pulling up to avoid a penalty.

This isn't first degree murder; Rome saw a chance for an open ice hit and half a second later the puck was gone. The fact that Horton got hurt would have been completely irrelevant had this hit happened on the board since a ref could argue that Rome finished his check and Horton just went in to the boards funny or something, but that fact that it was open-ice, right in the center of the play, and could have ruined a scoring chance kind of handcuffs the refs.

That, and he left his feet and made direct contact to the head. Keep your head up Lindros.

woke up really early for the second day in a row. 2am yesterday and 3am today. around 7am i was ready to do something. my city has a bunch of public skate parks now. growing up we had one that i spent all my money at. money that i got from picking up dog poop of course. it was a 10minute drive, the second closest being about 25minutes. the 25 minute one had a mini vert which was my absolute favorite thing to do so i'd always beg my parents to take me there.

the fact that there's four free to the public skate parks, all super close to me, equipped with mini verts, actually really bothers me for some reason. i used to build my own stuff in my backyard and dream of having a mini vert. now i see them all the time. keeping up with my post-black friday attitude of actually doing ****, this morning i took my nephew's skateboard and went to one. i dropped in a few times. i realized a lot has changed in the past 6yrs since i've skated. i ate it hard once on my shoulder. i didn't bounce back up like i remember always doing in the past. i probably spent in total 20minutes there before i got in the car and headed back home to play ps3.

This is the only part I disagree with. His feet were still on the ice when he first makes contact with Horton. He comes up a bit immediately afterwards but that just happens in a collision that big. He kept his elbow tucked in and shoulder level and clearly wasn't aiming at his head.

They just announced Rome got a 4 game suspension so he's done for the playoffs. It's a horse**** ruling. If you give him 1 because he hurt the guy on a clean hit that was <1 second late then fine whatever. 4 is like saying he intentionally tried to end his career. Can all pro athletes and commissioners/leagues stop being little bitches please. Paul Kariya was smaller than Nathan Horton, got hit harder, injured as badly and came back into the game and scored to help them win.

And before CCuster or anyone accuses me of anything. I played hockey from 4-18 including Bantam AAA with multiple guys who played major junior and two guys who played on Team Canada at the World Juniors so I think my opinion can be backed up by experience.
