I can't even fathom under what criteria Philly would be in that conversation. Their biggest place on the map is having a bunch of violent morons in the stands. Their teams sure don't justify much of any conversation. Boston at least wins a bunch of titles, so while their sports fans are a blight on society as a whole, I understand talking them up as a huge sports city.

I truly don't know what that's based on. They won one World Series, and lost the Super Bowl and NBA Finals not long before that. That's the sports capital? WTF?

it's a poll open to the public (that read espn.com and respond to polls), so it's based on whatever each person thinks it's based on. 2 writers give their opinions of what it's about under the poll. I don't even think the articles skew the results because imo the pro-Boston piece is written better.
so I guess the proper response is either "lol general espn reading public" or you think you're in the majority while actually being in the minority.
the only qualification I would give is that we're talking right now and reasonably recent history as opposed to the sum total of the city's sports history. I'm much more of a baseball fan than anything else, so my example is NYY. they've won way more world series championships than anyone else, but would you consider NYC the baseball capital of the "world"?
