Firing a tenured professor is incredibly difficult. We had one professor who published racists studies using fairly flawed methodology and another that said and stood by the position that if a girl gets raped instead of going to the police she should ask for money instead -- neither got fired despite the uproar. There was massive outcries-- especially over the rape guy-- and he stopped teaching but he was not fired.
