You know you need a biglaw hater around these parts to try and balance out all the naive biglaw love from the students. I play a good role in these threads, primarily because most people disagree with me.

I need a biglaw hater around to make me feel better about not going that route.

that's pretty owned. it's like the opposite of that awesome feeling of finding a $100 in your back pocket that you didn't know you had, and x60. that'll gg your day for sure.

Re: Law School

i just found out that one's GPA when applying to law school will include all undergrad-level courses the applicant ever took, including random summer courses and even courses you took while in high school or before.

in my case it'll likely help me a little as i got a few A's in some community college courses i took while in high school. really odd because i was taking those courses to try to make my high school transcript look more impressive, not my undergrad one. guess i can't really complain, but man does this policy seem questionable

Re: Law School

lol @ gpa mattering

I had friends in college who were definitely geniuses who got like 2.8-3.3 in Physics/Math/Chem/ORFE (Operational Finance Research and Engineering). I also knew a ton of complete morons who had 3.7+ in English/History etc.

well, they ask for you to submit a transcript from every undergraduate-level institution you ever attended for any length of time. they don't ask for your high school transcript.

AP classes (as far as i know) appear only on your high school transcript, even if you get credit at your undergrad for them. so i'm 99% sure AP classes won't be considered.

Re: Law School

For those that are already working, how'd you live for the months between graduation and first paycheck?

My firm gives a salary advance, but its not enough. Should I just get a no interest credit card and load it up?

Did anyone get/look at bar exam loans? I was looking at rates and whatnot, but theyre all variable based on credit, so I wasn't sure if i could get a reasonable rate. (Obviously it will be worse than a lot of my loans even with autodebit discounts, etc. so I'd pay this off first).

+1. They do offer 10-15K bar loans tho, but obv I'd try to avoid it. I know a guy that took out 25K in bar loans. Not sure what he was thinking.

Re: Law School

Is doing both moot court and law review possible?

Which do you think law firms prefer if you had to choose one?

Any tips for not shatting in your pants for moot court tryout? I enjoy writing but thinking on my feet is something I need to improve upon.

Thanks.

I did both and it's easily possible. I didn't take a leading role in either...once you get them on your resume, your role doesn't really matter.

And eviljeff is def right that law review >>>>>>>>>> moot court even though I think that law review is the most boring and useless experience ever and is just a way to get students to do free research assistant work under the guise of prestige.
