I'd really just practice multiple choice. If ur in Cali or ny u will crush essays by there's so many foreigners who barely speak English and bring the curve down or whatever. Also if ny I would ignore the state specific stuff completely since it's worth so little.

Basically just learn the multiple choice inside and out.
So late but this is so true for me and my prep in every way. 6 week grind solely focused on multiple choice using barbri books and my own schedule. At least here if you do well enough on it there was little needed on the essays to pass. I left one state-specific question essay blank to pad out the others I knew more on. I scraped by but made it.

Hi, I do law too, I'm a horrible student tho. I slack and leave every test till the day before (literally learn the whole course the day before) and barely pass.

I've got one more year of school, so I'll be starting next October. Pretty nice to get a raise in the middle of being a summer associate.

Yea I'm same year as you Sam. Rising 3L and starting job next fall. You're non-NY though right?

You're probably a year or 2 older. I'm 27 will be 28 in a few weeks.

Was just curious because you mentioned actually considering going back to Big Law, which was shocking. I just didn't think whatever you were doing was worse than Big Law, certainly not less money.

Haven't been to the Borgata in years haha. Still planning a triumphant return at some point, just waiting for the finances to sort themselves out.

I'm still with the Feds, doing acquisitions. It's been about a year and 9 months. SO much potential for advancement that I don't see myself leaving for at least another 5 years. Not technically a lawyer in my agency, but that might change soon. Still do some PI and other stuff on the side for fun and profit and to stay sharp.

On my second day of 1L orientation at a T3.

Week long orientation is the nut low. I'm being made to brief cases that do not count for anything.

My brother is also a 3L here and that has proven to be a massive massive edge even just two days into orientation.

Dorm life sucks though.

Would have loved a dorm in 1L. Someone else figure out my housing situation in Boston would have been clutch.

I can only imagine how petty dorm life would get during 1L, especially during finals. GL Cohiba, seems like you'll be fine though.

Dorm was cheapest/ most convenient option. I know students that are still scrambling for housing who are crossing bridges to get here everyday with 2 hours worth of rush hour traffic.

Just started 2L in NYC. Thoroughly enjoyed the 8 days of summer we were afforded.

Interned at a very large public defender organization over the summer, in a unit specializing in the defense of parents in relation to their neglect/abuse cases in family court. Absolutely loved it. All the attorneys were very down to earth and laid back, and they have the opportunity to argue in court nearly every day due to the way the family court process works in NYC. I also shadowed a few days in the defense unit, which I had an interest in due to a prior undergrad informal internship at a public defenders office. This, however, was my first time seeing NYC criminal court, and I was a bit underwhelmed by the machine-like nature of it.

Regardless, I enjoyed the experience enough to decide to focus on criminal/family court direct representation and DA offices moving forward, so I skipped firm OCI and am just now starting to apply for my 2L summer. I'm also taking an intensive Trial Ad class (4 students taught by prominent defense attorney in NYC-- repped Bobby Shmurda for a time...), and trying out for the Trial Ad team next week, which I am really looking forward to.

It's a bit stressful since I didn't have the most success applying to this type of positions during my 1L year, but hopefully the applicant pool will be smaller for 2Ls. Even so, there are very few defense/prosecution entities to apply to in NYC and the surrounding areas (as compared to the 100+ med/large firms).

dorms at Georgetown were actually pretty popular. were more like apartments than anything.

never lived there myself

Yeah I never lived in one but I thought dorms were pretty standard at law schools in like NYC/DC etc.

Glad to hear you're doing well. Do you get a pension where you're at too? Regardless you definitely have a sweet gig and I wouldn't worry too much about whether you're working as an true "lawyer" or not just keep up with the bar in the meantime.

I definitely make less where I'm at now. Wasn't significant at first but with all the new raises and bonuses big firms are handing out I'm missing out on quite a bit nowadays. Don't think I could give up leaving at 6 every day though.
