Re: Law School

I'm thinking I may want to do a joint jd/mba a few years down the line instead of waiting a year and applying to law school. most schools (or at least the ones i've checked) require you to apply and be admitted to their law school and b-school separately it seems.

Re: Law School

****, I keep trying to turn the NBA Season Thread into a law school thread but people yell at me for it. Apparently you can teach Torts at Tulane without knowing what res ipsa loquitur means.

Re: Law School

I'm in a seminar...last 2 classes are people "presenting" their 15-30 page papers.

During every single presentation, prof is clearly checking/sending personal emails on his blackberry...how bad is this?

Re: Law School

was there a diaroma component as well?

wtf at presenting a paper.

probably just thought "welp heres two less classes i have to come up with a lecture"

i had an undergrad professor that assigned a small group to present each class' material.

pretty sure dude didn't speak after like the third week.

brilliant move on his part.

Re: Law School

The bad thing about presentations was having to do them like 3 weeks before the actual paper was due (i.e. 2 weeks before I was actually planning on starting work on the paper). I think for my Coastal Law class I found some pictures of marshes and ospreys and stuff and made an outline pretty much lifted directly from epa.gov and turned it into a powerpoint.

Re: Law School

Random thoughts about first semester:

-Shoulda just taken a year off and done anything else. I don’t hate it, but I just feel like I wasted a chance at having some fun before putting myself in a 120k hole.

-It’s mad cliquey. Everyone’s way into their study group/activity group and if you didn’t meet someone during the first couple weeks you’re not really meeting anyone after that. This probably annoys me because I feel like I have a bunch of sorta friends and only like two real good ones.

-I despise the words “dispositive” and “merits” and the phrase “the case turns on”. Any question answered has about a 90% chance of having one of those in there.

-Always hated people talking about how behind they were and how little reading they’ve done and in law school this is magnified about 1000x.

-Going out to dinner/drinks with your professors is sweet, but all of them pretty much seem to go through a couple set questions for each person there then have to run because they’re oh so busy.

-Finals suck. I swear I got a crap draw on profs with respect to what kind of tests they write. All the other contracts classes are asking about UCC 2-207 and restatement standards and our test is some 7 page long hypo where every party would get screwed by enforcing their contracts and screwed if they didn’t. 8hr take home and I just sat there for like 6 of them, ugh.
1/3rd the civpro test was basically asking about whether specific rules were constitutional or not. What the hell are you supposed to write for that?

Guess it’s time to start looking for a summer job. I haven’t done jack yet so I guess a Biglaw-ish type job is out.

Any of you guys done judicial internships? I’ve heard some mixed things from a couple TAs who did them but it sounds pretty interesting and it looks like the demand>applications and I could pick a good location.

Any other cool ideas? I’m thinking of at least asking one professor if he needs a research assistant for the summer.
